Under immediate supervision, assists customers on rock wall equipment and actions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs basic rock wall orientations for participants.
Ensures all possible safety measures are observed by climbers. Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports.
Belays climbers.
Checks members' cards to see if they have passed their assessment.
Provides quality customer service and assists with accident preventions by enforcing policies, rules, and regulations, and governing the conduct of patrons using the rock wall. Maintains positive relationships with participants
Assists in completing routine safety checks of surrounding area in order to maintain safety and health standards.
Assists in performing routine cleaning.
Assists with rock wall parties.
Complies with City and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Must be at least 16 years of age. Three months indoor rock climbing experience preferred.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificate and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the city of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of rock wall processes, procedures, and risk tolerance assessment.
Knowledge of climbing techniques.
Ability to physically climb, tie ropes, adjust harnesses, and belay.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Ability to provide quality customer service.
Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.
Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and make repetitive motion. This position is mostly: Heavy work; exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. The employee is subject to hazards.
