    Job Description

    This position exists to provide psychiatric services to the ODU student population. These services include medication evaluation, management, diagnoses, and referral. The position also exists to provide consultation services to the staff of Counseling Services and the staff of Student Health Services with the purpose of providing coordinated care for students

    Knowledge, skills and abilities

     

    Working knowledge of psychiatry and developments in psychotropic medication.

     

    Working knowledge of the challenges of providing psychiatric care on a University campus.

     

    Ability to collaborate as a part of a team providing mental health services including the ability to consider alternative points of view and integrate the knowledge of other professionals into a treatment plan.

     

    Ability to build rapport with students and explain complex medication and mental health diagnoses in an understandable and clear fashion.

     

    Special licenses, registration or certification

     

    Satisfactory results from the National Practitioners Database.

     

    Current Drug Enforcement Agency registration for prescribing medication.

     

    Graduation from an accredited institution as a nurse practitioner.

     

    Treatment experience treating those with neurodiversity and ADHD . PMHNP licensed.

     

    Education or training

     

    Graduation from an accredited nurse practitioner program and certified as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in Virginia.

    Level and type of experience

    Some experience working with adolescents and adults. Some experience working in a college environment or with young adults providing medication evaluation and treatment for mental health disorders. Some experience with treatment for those with an ADHD diagnosis

    Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)

    Certified psychiatric nurse practitioner in the state of Virginia. PMHNP licensed.

     

    Preferred experience with a college population.

    Conditions of Employment

    Given the nature of the positions in Student Engagement & Enrollment Services that provide support to student services and/or student-centered programs, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a university closing as directed by his or her supervisor. These instances may include working from a remote location (i.e. telework, etc.).

     

    Hourly (wage) employees are restricted to working 29 hours per week on average or 1500 hours in total in the May 1 – April 30 period. This position does not have health insurance, retirement or leave.

     

    This position is designated as sensitive. A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the final candidate.

     

    This is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner ( PRN ) position with the Office of Counseling Services. The expected number of work hours is 5-10 hours per month.

     

    Annual Salary/Hourly Rate Salary is commensurate with education and experience and begins at $ - $120/hr
