Job Summary
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading the Purchasing department, with a team of 4 direct reports. You will take ownership of the procurement function, manage supplier relationships, and develop and implement purchasing strategies. This is a high-impact, hands-on role responsible for building scalable procurement processes to support production growth, improve cost, and ensure reliable material availability. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in high-growth environments, enjoys creating processes from the ground up, and understands the unique demands of manufacturing complex, custom-engineered products like electrical switchgear.
Qualifications
Job Duties and Responsibilities
+ Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with production growth and company objectives
+ Design and implement procurement workflows, policies, and KPIs to improve purchasing efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
+ Lead the purchasing team (currently 4 direct reports) and collaborate with engineering, operations, project management, and production departments.
+ Build strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, cost control, and supply continuity.
+ Work closely with planning and inventory teams to balance material availability with inventory turns.
+ Coordinate just-in-time delivery of materials while maintaining flexibility driven by project changes
+ Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
+ Proactively identify and mitigate supply chain risks.
+ Coach, mentor, and train purchasing team members to ensure continuous professional development and improved team performance
Required Skills and Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in business and 5+ years’ experience in sourcing, procurement, or purchasing in a manufacturing environment
+ Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Internet, with a high proficiency in Microsoft Excel
+ Knowledge of ERP systems, Epicor a plus.
+ Strong analytical skills; detail-driven individual with emphasis on accuracy with the ability to see the broader picture
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Professional business acumen
+ Self-directed; ability to work independently
+ Customer service oriented
+ Strong organizational skills: ability to manage multiple priorities and make effective decisions

+ Metal, mechanical, and electrical manufacturing experience
+ Experience with Epicor
+ Advanced Excel Skills
+ Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP)
