The Team
We are seeking a Specialty Engineer I to join American Tower’s U.S. Tower division’s Engineering department’s Specialty Engineering team. The team develops infrastructure designs to support the construction of a diverse group of telecommunications facilities including civil site, in-building, power, network connectivity, and small data center solutions. These designs include, but are not limited to, civil engineering for access roads, small- to medium sized buildings, fiber and copper infrastructure, electrical power plants, battery backup, etc., all of which aim to build scalable and robust infrastructures for deploying network solutions.
Day to day responsibilities include the end-to-end ownership of engineering-related tasks for network infrastructure designs such as code compliance, architectural design, and civil, structural, and/or mechanical engineering that support scalability and growth. You will support internal and external resources to ensure completed designs meet or exceed technical requirements and enable successful implementations of connectivity infrastructure solutions.
What You Need to Succeed
+ Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field, required.
+ For applicants with a Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering degree, a minimum of 1 year of telecommunication tower design and analysis, construction or field engineering of steel structures, and/or civil/electrical/mechanical engineering experience preferred.
+ For applicants with a degree in a related engineering field, a minimum of 2 years of telecommunication tower design and analysis, 4 years of construction or field engineering of steel structures, and/or 4 years of civil/electrical/mechanical engineering experience required.
+ Experience with AutoCAD and an ability to become proficient with either Civil 3D, Revit, or iBwave and including course work in civil and stormwater analyses; mechanical, structural, or power design; and analysis.
+ Fundamentals of Engineering license preferred.
+ Approximately 30% travel may be required to support the position’s responsibilities.
+ Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
+ Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.
+ Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment.
What You Can Offer Us
+ Understand and implement appropriate specialty engineering design requirements for projects (i.e., related to access road design and repair; grading, drainage and stormwater design; or building structural, electrical and mechanical design or network fiber/power, and RF connections/racking) associated with your discipline and expertise.
+ Complete engineering analyses and code research related to the specific engineering discipline (i.e., structural, stormwater drainage, computational fluid dynamics, and heat load analyses, etc.)
+ Draft. in Civil3D, Revit, AutoCAD or iBwave. to represent assigned engineering tasks.
+ Triage low to moderately complex projects and understand their requirements and supplemental documentation.
+ Conduct site walks, obtain site-specific documents, and assist with design strategies.
+ Prepare construction drawings for land development, equipment rooms, or buildings, as well as network designs that comply with building codes, AutoCAD standards, and engineering principles. Maintain site-specific digital twin documents following construction.
+ Collaborate cross-functionally across departments and represent the team when managing site-specific designs.
+ Continuously learn and apply new industry concepts and technologies.
+ Coordinate with and provide to survey vendors clear scopes of work.
+ Other duties as assigned.
