Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of next-generation networking products including routers, switches, firewalls, and servers that fulfill system product requirements. You will be responsible for creating innovative mechanical solutions using materials such as sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast, ensuring they comply with EMI, safety, and other regulatory standards. Furthermore, you will work closely with cross-functional teams including Hardware, Signal Integrity, CAD, Thermal, and Manufacturing to negotiate requirements and assess technical risks and tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

+ Design and develop mechanical solutions using sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast materials.

+ Ensure designs meet EMI, safety, and compliance requirements.

+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to negotiate requirements and evaluate technical risks and tradeoffs.

+ Focus primarily on designing computer networking equipment products for data centers such as servers, routers, and switches.

+ Perform electronic enclosure design.

+ Conduct tolerance analysis, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and statistical analysis.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in mechanical design of computer networking equipment, particularly servers, routers, and switches.

+ Expertise in designing with sheet metal, which accounts for 90% of the design work, and die-casting, which accounts for 10%.

+ Strong knowledge in manufacturing tooling for sheet metal, plastic, and die-casting.

+ Experience in electronic enclosure design.

+ Expert in tolerance analysis, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and statistical analysis.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience in designing plastic and die-cast parts.

+ Strong mechanical aptitude.

+ Experience in mechanism design is a plus.

+ Familiarity with Engineering Change Orders (ECO), Bill of Materials (BOM), and Deviation processes; experience with Agile is a plus.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of San Jose, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $73.00/hr.
