    The Ferguson Industrial MMS Laboratory Manager is responsible for leading and assisting a technical team performing laboratory and evaluative testing of pressure piping components, maintaining quality processes, activities, and accreditations, and collaborating with our business groups, suppliers, and customers.

     

    This position is an “on-site” position located in La Porte, Texas

    Responsibilities:

    + Prepare and maintain the quality management system and overall laboratory activities in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17025 standard.

    + Direct and assist a team assessing product conformity, certification, and technical evaluations to support safety, user confidence, and business goals.

    + Coordinate product inspections or product testing to support root cause analysis. This includes physically analyzing and assessing products with respect to qualification and investigations.

    + Serve as a technical resource for internal and external partners (inspection, auditing, manufacturing, customers, etc.), our associates, and cross-functional teams, and development of Own Brand product specifications.

    + Participate in supplier and product assessments and verifications, perform investigations, and ensure resolution of quality or conformance issues.

    + Conduct physical testing of products using various tools and techniques i.e., metallography, spectrometers, hardness, bending, tensile, pressure, and nondestructive testing.

    + Able to operate machinery for prep of specimens including saws, lathes, grinders, mounters, polishers, etc.

    + Collaborate with regulatory and certification agencies as needed.

    + Participate in customer presentations and audits.

    + Lead continuous improvement of laboratory processes, procedures, and capabilities.

    + Develop benchmarks, reporting, and analysis for specific product categories.

    + Prepare accredited and non-accredited test reports.

    Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s (or greater) in Engineering or another technical field.

    + Previous leadership experience in leading teams.

    + 7+ years of experience in a metallurgical and/or materials testing laboratory or similar technical environment.

    + 3+ years of experience in testing metallic pressure piping components for industrial use and their manufacturing.

    + 3+ years of experience with industrial standards, specifications, codes, and organizations e.g.,(ASTM, ASME, MSS, API, NACE, EPRI)

    + Experience with ISO Standards (17025 & 9001)

    + Ability to comprehend and follow written standards, work instructions, user and maintenance manuals, etc, and conversant in communicating sophisticated technical information.

    + Ability to prioritize and lead deadlines, handle stress, and work well in a fast-paced environment.

    + Ability to work both independently and as part of a cohesive, goal-oriented team.

    + Poise and maturity to work well with associates, vendors, and customers.

    + Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with a continuous improvement attitude.

    + Experience with professional tools such as Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PowerBI), Oracle, etc.

    + Support and implement corporate policies and initiatives.

    + Ability to work at customer facilities or in a hybrid setting.

    + Flexibility in working hours and ability to travel overnight if required.

    + Able to safely operate a forklift or other PIT equipment as necessary

    + Support all company Safety procedures

    + Able to lift 50lbs.

    Preferred:

    + Industrial product knowledge (pipe, valves, fittings, gaskets, etc.)

    + Experience interacting with regulatory and certifying bodies.

    + Experience with quality systems (e.g., Six Sigma, LEAN, FMEA, 8D, 5-Why)

    + Congenial association(s) with standards organizations.

    + SNT-TC-1A certification of Level II or III.

    + ASQ Certification(s) such as CQE, CQI, CQT, CMQ/OE.
