    Position Overview

    **Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE)** is seeking a Structural Engineer Intern for the Lenexa, Kansas office. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

    Our rapidly growing **Industrial and Water Engineering Group** , which includes mechanical, structural, architectural, electrical, controls, and process disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery. The Industrial Group projects span markets such as advanced technologies; mining, minerals and metals; process industries; industrial energy; drinking water; wastewater treatment and biosolids; desalination; and industrial water.

    This position is based in our Lenexa, KS office.

    Responsibilities

    + Develops familiarity with departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes and KIWE policies, guidelines and standards.

    + Understands, contributes to, and adheres to the KIWE Quality Plan requirements and objectives.

    + Prepares basic engineering calculations and following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analyses.

    + Prepares basic design sketches for drafting and incorporation into final plans.

    + Calculates cost and quantity estimates for project based on analysis of collected data.

    + Assists in checking various calculations, prepared drawings and documents as assigned and within established guidelines.

    + May inspect construction site to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and construction.

    + Checks vendor's drawings for structural construction commodities.

    + Communicates with other disciplines to coordinate design interfacing issues.

    Qualifications

    + Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering, or Civil or Architectural Engineering with a Structural emphasis from an ABET accredited college or university.

    + GPA above 3.0 preferred

    + Completed a Fundamentals of Structural Analysis course which includes computer application.

    + Completed a Strength of Materials course with statics and dynamics application.

    + Completed Fundamentals of Steel Design course and/or Fundamentals of Concrete Design course.

    + Should be comfortable with the use of basic spreadsheet, database, and word processing programs.

    + Must be familiar with basic structural analysis software, engineering software, and basic CADD software for reviewing drafter’s work.

    + Highly desirable that the individual will have specific knowledge of SAP2000 or RISA 3D, MathCad, Revit and Navisworks.

    + Work productively and meet deadlines timely

    + Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.

    + Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.

    + Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime as required.
