    _The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._

    Responsibilities:

    Using independent judgment and initiative, the physician support specialist performs duties related to general cardiology. Duties include but are not limited to communicating with internal and external customers (primary care, referring physicians) scheduling consults, follow up visits, tests as well as resources related to the care of these patients.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Schedule procedures, appointments and ancillary tests with input from physicians and other health care personnel.

    + Provide patients with procedure descriptions and special instructions as necessary.

    + This requires the ability to evaluate medical information provided, to provide answers to questions asked by patients and to clarify information as needed for other areas.

    + Responsible for ensuring test results are received, reviewed and appropriately filed.

    + Coordinate patient information; entry of data into eRecord and Cadence databases as necessary.

    + Support for Nurse Practitioners and Cardiologists responsible for delivery of patient care.

    + In a professional manner, assess and appropriately triage calls; gather information, evaluate callers concerns and refer to physicians or other

    + health care personnel to address.

    + Must possess the ability to determine which questions should appropriately be addressed by physicians or other health care providers.

    + Respond to callers independently and follow-up to be sure customers are satisfied that requests were handled in a timely fashion.

    + Manage/monitor in-baskets on a daily basis to ensure referrals, appointments, telephone encounters and all related activities are completed and accurate; communicate any discrepancies back to clinical support and/or provider for clarification.

    + Review of AVS (After Visit Summary) when necessary, at check-out and/or follow up.

    + Arrives/checks out patients, pre-registers patients for next visit, coordinates appointments for ancillary testing or referrals to other clinic sites, follows-up missed appointments and cancellations, completes any correspondence or forms involved with appointment scheduling, schedules interpreters, schedules outside services to meet patient’s needs, and ensures patient satisfaction with visit prior to discharge from the area.

    + Prints After Visit Summary (AVS) at check-out when appropriate, uses two patient identifiers to ensure provision of the summary to the correct patient.

    + May assist with provider template changes.

    + Collects patient co-pays, prepares end of day deposits and reconciles any discrepancies.

    + Collects patient demographic and financial information in an efficient, customer-oriented manner.

    + Asks specific questions of patient to verify information accuracy to establish a billable account.

    + Enters information into electronic medical record (EMR) and patient access and revenue cycle system.

    + Requests patient e-mail address for confirmation purposes.

    + Ensures completion of all appropriate forms by patients, such as Medicare Secondary Payer assurance, provision of HIPAA information for new patients, requesting patient identification to verify identity, provision of Financial Assistance Program, etc.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    + High School diploma or equivalent Required

    + Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience Required

    + Or an equivalent combination of education and experience Required

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    + Experiences with surgical/appointment scheduling software and electronic medical records Preferred

    + Demonstrated customer relations skills. Preferred
