    We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Principal Systems Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of the infrastructure that powers Greenway Secure Cloud. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise across virtualization, storage, networking, and cloud computing, along with strong knowledge of backup solutions, monitoring platforms, disaster recovery, and security best practices. This role requires hands-on technical execution, strategic infrastructure planning, and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the platform’s reliability, performance, and security.

     

    As a Principal System Engineer, you will lead the strategic design, implementation, and management of the organization’s systems and infrastructure. This senior leadership role involves architecting scalable, secure, and highly available environments that align with business objectives. You will mentor senior engineers, oversee complex projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the organization’s operational efficiency and effectiveness in technology.

     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

     

    + Assist in the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of servers and associated applications.

    + Monitor system performance, analyze metrics, and implement optimizations to ensure high availability and efficiency.

    + Assist in diagnosing and resolving complex hardware, software, and network issues in environments.

    + Support the application of security best practices, including patch management, user permissions, and system hardening.

    + Help manage backup and disaster recovery processes to safeguard data and ensure business continuity.

    + Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting processes.

    + Work closely with other IT teams to support the integration of Linux systems with other platforms and technologies.

    + Provide technical assistance to end-users regarding systems and applications.

     

    Education and Experience

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT or a related field

    + Familiarity with systems and technologies, potentially through internships or academic projects.

    + Ten (10) + years' experience in managing environments with proven track record in designing & implementing enterprise-level solutions.

    + Proven experience designing and managing production-grade infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments.

    + Hands-on experience with backup solutions, disaster recovery planning, and high-availability configurations.

     

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

     

    + Strong knowledge of security fundamentals, including IAM, encryption, and compliance frameworks such as HIPAA.

    + Hands-on production experience with AWS, OCI, Azure, or GCP.

    + Familiarity with core services across major cloud providers; professional-level certifications preferred (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect – Associate, SysOps Administrator – Associate).

    + Strong grasp of modern cloud-centric architectures and DevOps principles.

    + Knowledge of infrastructure as code tools (AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Chef).

    + Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tooling.

    + Deep expertise in Linux and Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, and virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.

    + Skilled in diagnosing and resolving complex hardware, software, and network issues, often serving as a key escalation point.

    + Experienced in architecting, deploying, and managing enterprise-level servers and applications to meet business requirements and performance standards.

    + Adept at continuously monitoring and optimizing system performance to ensure high availability and efficiency.

    + Extensive expertise in enterprise storage technologies including SAN, NAS, and cloud platforms.

    + Advanced knowledge of storage protocols such as iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS, and CIFS.

    + Strong experience with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning, with deep understanding of storage security, data protection, and compliance regulations.

    + Skilled in overseeing and enhancing backup and recovery strategies and maintaining data integrity measures.

    + Strong understanding of global WAN, SD-WAN, and CDN technologies.

    + Extensive knowledge of security protocols, system monitoring, and performance optimization techniques.

    + Proven ability to lead the implementation and management of security measures and protocols across enterprise environments.

    + Experienced in leading the design and architecture of enterprise-level systems and establishing performance benchmarks and standards.

    + Provides mentorship and guidance to engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

    + Recognized for excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills in cross-functional collaboration.

     

    Linux

     

    + Solid understanding of Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu) with proficiency in command-line tools, system monitoring, patch management, and backup/recovery processes.

    + Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills applied in enterprise environments.

     

    Windows

     

    + Knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and related technologies, with experience in system monitoring, patch management, and backup/recovery.

    + Skilled in diagnosing and resolving complex issues while providing support to end-users and teams.

     

    Storage

     

    + Hands-on experience with SAN, NAS, and cloud storage solutions across both Windows and Linux platforms.

    + Understanding of storage protocols including iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS, and CIFS.

    + Familiar with backup, recovery, and storage management tools to support data protection and availability.

     

    Collaboration & Communication

     

    + Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide clear technical support to end-users.

     

    Work Environment/Physical Demands

     

    + While at work, this position is primarily a sedentary job and requires that the associates be able to work in an environment where they will consistently be seated for most of the workday.

    + This role requires that one can sit and regularly type on a keyboard for most of their workday.

    + This position requires the ability to observe a computer screen for long periods of time to observe their own and others’ work, as well as incoming and outgoing communications via the computer and/or mobile devices.

    + The role necessitates the ability to listen and speak clearly to customers and other associates.

    + The work environment is an open room with other associates and noise from others will be part of the regular workday.

    + This role may require travel and work outside of normal business hours.
