    **Work Schedule:** 8 Hr (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM)

    **Pay Range:** $48.07 - $83.16 per hour

    Summary:

    The Wound and Ostomy Cert RN expertly provides and coordinates care for patients with wound, skin and ostomy needs that include assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. The WOCC promotes evidence based patient care through the integration of research and quality improvement strategies in clinical practice. The WOCC exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and practices in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

    Required Job Qualifications:

    • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an NLN accredited school of nursing.

    • Progressive experience and advanced knowledge in skin, wound and ostomy care.

    • Certification in wound and/or ostomy nursing from an accredited program.

    • Analytical ability.

    • Ability to interpret complex organizational systems.

    • Communication skill is required in order to lead and teach.

    • Interact effectively with others in difficult situations.

    • The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter or retrieve data, and closely examine specimen, images or reports.

    Preferred Job Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree.

    Physical Demands:

    • Ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift.

    • Lifting or carrying objects 35-40 lbs. and lifting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs.

    • Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Provides direct care and consultation to nurses and physician for the prevention and management of wounds and ostomies Performs and documents wound and skin assessments using a comprehensive and systematic approach.

    2. Assesses patient status with regard to wound, skin and ostomy needs to obtain data that integrates patient’s diagnoses and physical/psychological findings, patient/family perceptions of illness and cultural value systems.

    3. Assesses patient/family’s complex learning needs for wound, skin and ostomy related to diagnosis, treatment and discharge.

    4. Assesses age specific data based on knowledge of growth and development.

    5. Formulates an evidenced based plan of care and communicates plan to nursing, physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.

    6. Collaborates with health care team members to ensure effective implementation of plan and in meeting patient/family learning needs.

    7. Integrates data and knowledge of growth and development in planning patient care.

    8. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions and revises plan as needed.

    9. Communicates ongoing wound, skin and ostomy care needs and interventions across the care continuum.

    10. Educates health care professionals, other caregivers and patient/families about risk factors, prevention, appropriate interventions and treatments.

    11. Develops, conducts and participates in formal and informal education of patients/families and staff in area of expertise.

    12. Contributes to development of policies, procedures, protocols and/or patient educational materials as appropriate in area of expertise.

    13. Participates in academic programs, as negotiated.

    14. Utilizes and disseminates research findings to support and improve nursing practice.

    15. Provides guidance and expertise for product usage and techniques.

    16. Collects specific patient and wound data to improve cost and quality outcomes.

    17. Maintains a list of products for wound, skin and ostomy care that addresses clinical and cost-containment needs.

    18. Assists in identifying cost savings related to skin, wound care and ostomy supplies and treatment modalities.

    19. Collaborates with nursing leadership to develop interventions to address NDNQI or UHC survey results in order to ensure results are equal to or better than national data.

    20. Maintains statistics for wound and ostomy patient populations.

    21. Assists with quality improvement initiatives on identified areas that are high-risk or require improvement. Consults with unit Quality Improvement committees’ interventions to address identified issues.

    22. Supports the Rush mission, vision and values.

    23. Obtains input to evaluate effectiveness of role and opportunities to better meet customer needs.

    24. Responsible for personal and professional growth and development.

    25. Participates in activities to enhance professional growth by involvement in professional organizations and continuing education.

    26. Continually improves personal skills to ensure the highest quality patient care; the education of staff, patient/families, and students.

    27. Demonstrates a willingness to accept positive and negative feedback and changes behavior as indicated.

    28. Treats patients, visitors and staff in a caring manner with respect and dignity.

    29. Exhibits the spirit of team in working with other Rush staff.

    30. Utilizes the resources of the Medical Center in a responsible manner to accomplish daily work.
