    **Job Description** EGA Associates, LLC. is currently seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to provide services at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. The Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year including Federal Holidays. Typical shifts are 8 or 12 hours long. The general duty of the provider is to provide the range of Emergency services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art health care treatment facility to patients of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in accordance with the terms and conditions of the VA, as well as recognized national standards.

    Their duties include:

    Evaluation, Emergent Treatment and Management: Employment of the principles of emergency care for life/limb threats, resuscitation and stabilization, triage, diagnosis, and disposition.

    Initial evaluation, emergent treatment and management of disorders consistent with an emergency department.

    Major procedures shall be performed in the VAMC Emergency Medicine when safe and appropriate to do so for procedures such as central venous line placement, arterial catheter placement, emergency chest tube or needle thoracostomy to relieve tension pneumothorax, peritoneal lavage, defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion, endotracheal intubation, lumbar puncture, proctoscopy/anoscopy, pericardiocentesis, simple closed fracture and dislocation reduction, arthrocentesis, local/regional anesthesia, moderate and/or deep procedural sedation, pericardiocentesis, temporary pacemaker placement, chest tube thoracostomy and cricothyroidotomy.

    Stabilization and transfer: when EM patients require a level of care higher than can be reasonably provided within the capabilities of the VAMC, the contractor’s physicians/providers shall provide appropriate stabilization prior to, or in concert with, transfer to a medical facility able to provide the level of care required.

    Inpatient Admissions: Contractor’s physician(s)/provider(s) shall review all admissions to inpatient hospital care recommended by Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner). Every admission to inpatient care shall have a person-to-person hand-off/hand-over from the admitting Provider to a responsible member of the admitting team.

    Consultation and Referral Responsibilities: Contractor’s physician(s)/provider(s) shall provide consultation with and instruction to referring physicians regarding appropriate indications for procedures so that the most expeditious and clinically appropriate work-up can be done. Contractor’s physician(s)/provider(s) shall determine the appropriate course of treatment and communicate in person or by phone with the referring clinicians.

    Contractor’s physician(s)/provider(s) shall initiate appropriate social work referrals for all identified homeless veterans and for patients who do not have primary care providers, but who appear regularly in the EM.

    Orthopedic devices: Contractor’s physician(s)/provider(s) shall apply, or directly supervise the application of, orthopedic devices such as splints and braces to stabilize orthopedic injuries.

    Medications: Contractor’s physician(s)/provider(s) shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.

    Discharge education: Contractor’s physician(s)/provider(s) shall provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for Emergency Medicine patients.

    Communication of Test Results: Mechanisms must be in-place to provide notification of test results for patients receiving care in accordance with VHA Directives

    Qualifications:

    Providers shall have a current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia) when services are performed onsite on VA property and will be submitted at time of offers due.

    Must have at least 3-5 years of recent experience providing emergency medical care.

    Contractor’s provider(s) shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government’s requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.

    Must have NPI and DEA.

    Must be able to pass a VA background check.

    Must hold BLS and ACLS certification through the AHA.

    Must comply with client’s occupational health requirements to include TB screening, MMR, Pertussis, Influenza, COVID-19, Hepatitis B.

    US Citizen or provide proof of legal residence in the United States.

    Working Conditions:

    Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Work is normally performed in a typical emergency room work environment. Required to respond to any medical emergencies, where a fast walk or jog may be necessary to provide assistance.
