    Job Description and Duties

    The Energy Commission seeks an Electric Generation System Program Specialist II (EGSPS II) will serve as a key electric vehicle (EV) grid integration expert and project leader within the Fuels and Transportation Division. The EGSPS II analyzes technology trends, market trends, and regulatory proceedings and develops proposed policies, programs, and projects designed to facilitate the integration of electric vehicles and electric vehicle charging equipment with the electricity grid. Priorities include promoting interoperability within the electric transportation system and the development of electric vehicles and their charging equipment as electrical resources. The Fuels and Transportation Division supports California’s transition to electric transportation by leading activities related to analytical and modeling work, designing public funding opportunities, and crafting policy recommendations. These activities help electric transportation grow into a more convenient and accessible part of daily life for Californians and a key part of a resilient and carbon - neutral energy system.

    Working Conditions

     

    The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. This position is remote-centered, which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time from an alternate work location.

     

    Teleworking is only available for employees who reside in California. You must be located in California and provide your in-state address prior to your start date.     + Substantial knowledge of electric vehicles, particularly of charging infrastructure technologies.

    + Substantial experience with demonstrated results in the area of bidirectional charging, managed charging, charging interoperability, and/or other key factors related to vehicle-grid integration.

    + Experience with modeling tools and methods to analyze charging infrastructure.

    + Ability to evaluate and understand dependencies among systems and market trends (for example, the relationships between transportation electrification, renewable energy, and the electric transmission and distribution systems).

    + Excellent communication skills, including writing skills.

    + Ability to collaborate and provide situational awareness across Energy Commission units, offices, and divisions, as well as other California agencies.

    + Ability to interact will all levels of technical staff, management, and commissioners.

    + Ability to assume a lead position in a team environment.
