The Brooklyn Center Community School (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join ourNutrition Services TeamasNutrition Services Manager. The Nutrition Services Manager performs intermediate semiskilled and administrative work planning, coordinating, assigning, overseeing the preparation, cooking, serving, cleaning, and storing of food, preparing and maintaining necessary records, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Operations Director. General supervision is exercised over Head Cooks and nutrition service staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Manage the district’s nutrition services program across school sites, ensuring efficient meal service and operational consistency.
+ Maintain compliance with USDA Child Nutrition Program regulations, state education department guidelines, and local health and safety codes.
+ Develop student-focused menus aligned with federal meal patterns and wellness initiatives.
+ Hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and, if necessary, discipline nutrition services staff to maintain a high-performance team.
+ Implement HACCP principles and oversee safety protocols, sanitation, and equipment maintenance to ensure a safe dining environment.
+ Manage operational budgets, revenue tracking, cost control, and financial reporting to ensure fiscal accountability.
+ Oversee purchasing, vendor relations, inventory tracking, and cost-efficient supply management.
+ Plan and manage catering services for district-wide events, meetings, and special programs.
+ Identify relevant grants, prepare applications, manage awarded funds, and monitor grant compliance and reporting.
+ Join and engage with state and national school nutrition associations, such as your MN School Nutrition Association and the School Nutrition Association (SNA), to stay updated on best practices, access training, networking, and advocacy resources.
+ Assess program performance, solicit stakeholder feedback, and implement enhancements to improve quality, efficiency, and satisfaction.
+ Work closely with school administrators, district leadership, and external partners to support nutrition services goals and resolve issues.
+ Maintain accurate documentation, including meal counts, audits, reimbursements, and USDA/state reporting for program integrity.
+ Promote a positive, respectful dining experience for students and staff through efficient service and responsive problem-solving.
+ Operate under the general guidance of the Director of Operations, providing regular updates on program status, needs, and recommendations.
+ Monitor child nutrition federal/ state regulations and local health department rules to ensure compliance. Ensures all cleanliness and safety standards are adhered to.
+ Organize, direct and administer federally funded school meal programs including applications, agreements and contracts, state and federal reimbursement claims, local, state and federal regulations, federally donated food, and free and reduced meal program.
+ Effectively identify and implement energy efficiency projects, sustainability initiatives and waste and water reduction efforts.
+ Assist in the development of specifications and work with vendors to help bid or quote new equipment.
+ Handle kitchen and cafeteria emergencies including equipment failure, repair and service calls, etc.; documents issues and corrective action taken. Responds to emergency calls after hours or on weekends when needed.
+ Maintain absolute confidentiality of work related issues, records and BCCS information.
+ Meet and communicate with Licensed School Nurse and parents of children with special dietary needs.
+ Other duties as apparent or assigned.
Knowledge,Skills and, Abilities Preferred:
+ Thorough knowledge of the preparation, cooking and serving of food in large quantities.
+ Thorough knowledge of food quality and values and of nutritional and economic substitutions within food groups
+ Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices used in ordering, receiving, and storing food in large quantities
+ Thorough knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety measures used in food handling and in operation, cleaning, and care of utensils, equipment, and work areas
+ Thorough knowledge of U.S.D.A. rules and regulations; some knowledge of special dietary requirements
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google
+ General understanding of schools accounting procedures and UFARS codes
+ Good judgment and decision-making. Required Work Experience in Addition to Formal Education/ Training
+ Previous experience in school foodservice management
Qualifications:
+ Previous experience in school food service management preferred
+ Required Education: High school diploma (GED) or Nutrition Technical Degree
+ LICENSE/ CERTIFICATION ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification required, School Nutrition Association Certification, Level 3 preferred.
+ Minnesota School Nutrition Association training. Registered Dietician preferred—valid driver's license. Licenses must be kept current and valid.
