Job Description
This is an in-office, on campus role.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director of Employment to join our Human Resources team. This senior-level position plays a key role in leading employment services across the University, fostering a culture of integrity, equity, and collaboration.
Reporting to the Director of Employment, the Associate Director will supervise a team of Senior HR Officers, HR Officers, and front desk staff. You will provide strategic HR consultation and coaching to University leaders on matters of employment, talent management, employee relations, corrective actions, and performance management.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
Directly supervise HR Officers, Senior HR Officers, and front desk staff.
Support and develop team members through ongoing feedback, coaching, and performance management.
HR Consultation & Employee Relations
Advise Deans, Vice Presidents, and senior administrators on complex HR matters, including legal compliance and best practices.
Provide guidance on corrective actions, investigations, and policy interpretation.
Serve as a primary point of contact for employee relations and workplace issues.
Talent Management & Organizational Development
Lead the design and implementation of consistent employee relations and talent management programs.
Collaborate with HR Liaisons and department leaders to promote a positive work environment aligned with University values.
Drive the development of training programs for faculty chairs, HR Liaisons, and hiring managers.
Recruitment & Workforce Planning
Manage strategic and equitable recruitment plans for assigned departments.
Consult on complex or high-level recruitment searches and recommend targeted strategies for inclusive hiring.
Advise hiring managers on immigration processes and partner with General Counsel on complex immigration matters.
Strategic Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Represent the Employment Office on University committees and with external partners and vendors.
Partner with senior HR leadership on union negotiations, grievances, and special projects.
Lead or participate in ongoing HR initiatives and employment projects to enhance operational excellence.
Compliance & Best Practices
Ensure HR practices align with University policies, employment laws, and regulatory requirements.
Stay informed on trends, legal updates, and emerging technologies in HR and employment law.
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $102,150 to $127,700; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, talent management, recruitment, and compliance.
Experience in higher education or a similarly complex, mission-driven organization strongly preferred.
Proven ability to influence, build consensus, and foster strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
Excellent communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of U.S. employment law and HR technologies.
