    Housing and Food Services (HFS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Creative Content Producer to join their team.

     

    Housing & Food Services (HFS) supports over 10,000 student residents and operates 40+ dining locations on campus. With a team of over 1,200 staff and students, HFS is dedicated to enhancing student life through teamwork and excellent service.

    The Creative Content Producer is part of an internal creative team that promotes Housing & Food Services (HFS) at the University of Washington. HFS offers a variety of living and dining options that support students and the larger UW campus community.

     

    As an auxiliary enterprise, the department is funded solely by revenue from students and customers who utilize these programs and services, such as on-campus housing, residential dining, retail dining, UW Bay Laurel Catering, summer conference housing, and the Husky Card campus ID card. This position plays a key role in annual and ongoing efforts to market on-campus housing and food services options to prospective students, HFS residents, and the campus community. Effectiveness is achieved by ensuring that storytelling reflects ever-evolving trends and best practices, and supports the department’s occupancy, resident satisfaction, and business goals.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Content Development and Execution

    + Develops and executes engaging content across multiple marketing channels to tell the story of Housing & Food Services, including web, video, organic and paid social, email newsletters and communications, digital display, print, etc.

    + Writes, edits and publishes website content using CMS; Optimize web content for SEO to enhance visibility and drive traffic to site.

    + Writes and builds email communications and newsletters using UW email tool.

    + Writes, designs, and posts social media content; manages paid social media campaigns; uses social media scheduler as needed.

    + Produces marketing graphics for all channels, using Figma, Canva, and other tools.

    + Coordinates with partners, vendors and freelancers for specialized content creation as needed.

    + Produces short-form videos for all channels, including story boarding, script writing, filming and editing.

    + Produces photography as needed for all channels.

    + Leads content projects from ideation to completion, including developing and communicating production schedules. Collaborates with colleagues and student employees as needed.

    + Collaborates with unit and department colleagues to collect and review analytics, participates in making data-driven decisions for future marketing and communications efforts.

    + Produces work that is in alignment with established department and University vision and values, brand standards, accessibility standards and policies for messaging, communications, information design, graphics, and photography.

    Storytelling Strategy

    + Collaborates with unit and department colleagues to develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy that aligns with business objectives.

    + Actively contributes to the organization’s content strategy and editorial calendar. Facilitates workshops and brainstorming sessions to foster innovative content ideas and storytelling techniques.

    + Follows established content creation process, from ideation to publication, ensuring high-quality and consistent messaging.

    + Creates and maintains a library of brand stories and testimonials to be used across various platforms.

    + Develops personas and target audience profiles to tailor content strategies effectively.

    + Stays updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure that content remains relevant and competitive.

    + Conducts regular content audits to ensure all information is current, accurate, and aligned with brand messaging.

    + Proactively and collaboratively identifies potential solutions to complex problems and unique issues as they arise.

    + Monitors online conversations and trends, takes appropriate action and recommend solutions; collaborates with department subject matter experts to craft social media replies and posts.

    Project and Relationship Management

    + Coordinates multiple projects at any given time; collaborates with partners to determine deliverables and establish timelines and roles. Acts as a liaison between the marketing team and other departments to ensure cohesive communication strategies.

    + Organizes regular check-ins and feedback sessions with partners and collaborators to ensure project alignment and address any issues promptly.

    + Ensures that marketing deliverables are scheduled, completed on time and within budget. Provides timely and ongoing communication related to the status of projects and plans. Manages project risks by identifying potential obstacles early and developing contingency plans.

    + Develops and distributes regular reports on marketing activities and outcomes to stakeholders and leadership.

    + Recruits and manages a team of student content creators (student employees and/or “ambassadors”); provides guidance and mentorship to enhance their skills.

    Miscellaneous

    + Represents unit and department interests on cross-functional teams, committees and work groups.

    + Attends student meetings and events (usually outside of the business day) to represent the marketing team, capture content, and/or report back on marketing opportunities.

    + Stays informed about university-wide initiatives and incorporates relevant information into marketing plans.

    + Performs related duties as assigned to support the mission and strategic initiatives of Housing & Food Services.

    POSITION COMPLEXITIES

    The Creative Content Producer works closely and builds consensus within the unit and with key stakeholders from across the organization to continually analyze, iterate and improve operational and administrative support of the HFS Communications & Marketing work and the user experience, with attention to inclusivity and accessibility.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    + The position maintains regular office hours Monday through Friday with additional requirements to participate in events or meetings outside of regular office hours and/or on-site work schedule.

    + Work is performed in an open office setting with noise and other distractions. The position may travel to various campus locations with a laptop computer, camera or marketing materials.

    + A hybrid arrangement that includes working two days remotely is an option based on supervisor approval.

    IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY

    The Creative Content Producer is a key storyteller in Housing & Food Services, one of the largest departments at UW. Through identifying and executing multi-channel storytelling, a strategic narrative is told - and has a positive impact on reputation and occupancy for living and dining on campus. Strategic content is produced to reach key audiences - nearly 10K student residents, and 50K+ members of the campus community.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supervises student employees; does not supervise professional or classified staff.

    REPORTS TO

    Marketing & Content Strategy Manager

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    + Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, business or a related field.

    + Two years’ experience creating and implementing marketing campaigns.

    + Excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal communication skills including communicating effectively with stakeholders and leadership about priorities and deliverables.

    + Demonstrated experience in storytelling across multiple marketing channels, using current and emerging tools:

    + Organic/paid social media

    + Email automation platforms

    + Graphic design tools

    + Mobile video and editing tools

    + Photography

     

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Master’s degree in a related field.

    + Attention to detail, ability to consistently meet deadlines and strong customer service orientation.

    + Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a dynamic work environment.

    + Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.

    + Experience working in higher education.

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

    + A satisfactory outcome from reference check process is required prior to hire.
