Veterinary Triage Technician, Weekends

MissionVet is a multi-disciplinary veterinary specialty and emergency hospital, and we are currently seeking an experienced Triage Technician to help us continue to build our specialty practice and work in Emergency Outpatient Care. As an essential part of our hospital, our technicians play a vital role, using their skills and expertise to provide exceptional care for patients and compassionate support for clients. Compensation:

+ $20 - $23 depending on experience

+ $3 hourly overnight differential

+ $1 hourly weekend differential

Anticipated Schedule:

+ Weekends

+ Saturdays: 10a-10p

+ Sundays: 10a-10p

Job Summary:

MissionVet Specialty & Emergency is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Triage Technician to join our Emergency team. This critical role is dedicated to triaging veterinary patients, ensuring timely and thorough assessments to prioritize care based on medical urgency. The Triage Technician will perform comprehensive patient evaluations, manage intake processes, and maintain seamless communication with the veterinary team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. This position demands exceptional clinical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering outstanding emergency care .

Key Responsibilities:

+ Promptly triage patients: obtain vitals (HR, rhythm, pulse, temperature, pain score, MM color, CRT, mentation) and collect preliminary history.

+ Secure owner consent for life-saving measures, pain control, or anti-convulsants when needed.

+ Perform parvo tests, process billing, and record results in ezyVet.

+ Notify veterinarians immediately of abnormalities, instability, or elevated pain levels.

+ Update Smartflow problem lists, cage numbers, cautions, alerts, and create cage cards for admitted patients.

+ Ensure proper kennel setup (bedding, water, cage cards, rescue doses, seizure bells) and highlight abnormal vitals for recheck.

+ Monitor and recheck waiting patients, alerting veterinarians to changes in condition.

+ Respond to STAT calls and bring patients to treatment if triage cannot be completed within 15 minutes.

+ Assist with restraint, walking, and documenting patient eliminations in Smartflow; report vomiting to veterinarians.

+ Remain available in treatment area during triage duties and follow established triage protocol for consistency and efficiency.

Who We’re Looking For:

+ Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVT) or Skilled Technicians with at least 2 years of experience.

+ Prior experience in Emergency and Critical Care is preferred.

+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

+ Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus

+ The ability to thrive under pressure and make informed decisions in fast-paced situations.

+ A genuine passion for animal care and a commitment to patient well-being.
