    Veterinary Clinical Trainer & Hospital Safety Officer

Red Bank Veterinary Hospital (RBVH) is a new, state-of-the-art facility that opened in May 2024—an expansive, 100,000+ square foot space nearly twice the size of our original Tinton Falls location. This milestone marks the continuation of over 40 years of dedicated service to our community. Equipped with advanced diagnostics like MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, and a PET scanner, the hospital features 52 exam rooms, 12 surgical suites, a dedicated emergency department, and expanded training spaces. Thoughtful amenities—including feline-only waiting areas, a rehab unit, comfort rooms, and a serene zen garden—reflect our commitment to exceptional care for pets and their families.

     

    We are seeking a Clinical Trainer & Hospital Safety Officer to support the growth of our veterinary nursing team while leading hospital safety initiatives. This dual-role position combines staff development with OSHA compliance to ensure excellence in both patient care and workplace safety.

    Position Overview:

    The Clinical Trainer & Hospital Safety Officer (HSO) is a dual-role position responsible for both supporting clinical staff development and leading hospital safety programs. This individual will provide skills coaching, checklist support, and educational reinforcement for veterinary nursing staff, while also serving as the primary driver of OSHA compliance, safety training, and hazard management. The position ensures that both team development and safety standards are aligned with hospital values, best practices, and regulatory requirements.

    Compensation:

    + + Credentialed Technicians: $29- $39/hr. based on experience

    + Non-Credentialed Technicians: $24- $30/hr. based on experience

     

    The final compensation offer will be based on the qualified candidate’s experience and ability to make an impact coming into the role.

    Anticipated Schedule:

    + Full Time

    + Rotating training shifts between 6 AM and 2 AM as needed

    + 4-day work week available on mid/late shifts

    + No weekends, holidays, or beepers required!!!

    + Final schedule TBD by L&D Manager

    Key Responsibilities:

    Clinical Coaching & Upskilling

     

    + Serve as a learning management system (LMS) coach for staff enrolled in checklist-based development programs

    + Provide timely feedback, skills coaching, and verification of clinical competencies

    + Collaborate with Clinical Coordinators to identify learning needs, align training expectations, and reinforce performance standards

    + Provide on-the-floor support and feedback to team members to reinforce SOPs, patient care protocols, and nursing efficiency

    + Foster a psychologically safe, learner-centered environment grounded in continuous improvement

    + Stay current with best practices in veterinary clinical education and training methodology

     

    Safety Culture & Compliance

     

    + Act as the Hospital Safety Officer through routine communication, documentation review, and ownership of Safety Applications

    + Act as the in-hospital resource for OSHA and safety questions

    + Oversee all OSHA compliance officers and teams, including Radiation Safety, MRI Safety, Hazardous Waste Safety, Chemical & Chemo Spill Teams, Rabies Specimen Collection Team, and Restraint Training Program.

    + Oversee and work with shared services to ensure compliance for State and federal DEP, DOH & OSHA regulations, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

    + Conduct routine safety inspections, workplace hazard assessments, and incident reviews

    + Assist with the implementation of hospital policies, OSHA protocols, and safety-related initiatives

    + Promote accountability and awareness around safety standards, serving as a resource to teams and leadership

    + Manage documentation and compliance tracking for OSHA-required programs

    + Communicate regularly with hospital leadership, facilities team, and Ethos safety contacts regarding emerging safety issues or compliance updates

    + Keep safety manuals and SDS binder updated and compliant

    + Partner with the Training Specialist to update safety training in our LMS

    General Responsibilities

    + Reinforce the hospital’s mission, vision, and values by maintaining an environment of support, collaboration, and mutual respect

    + Provide input to the Learning & Development Manager regarding training outcomes, developmental needs, and performance concerns

    + Support training-related documentation, compliance initiatives, and evaluation of knowledge retention

    + Stay current with best practices in veterinary training and education to support staff development

    + Maintain professionalism and approachability in all teaching, coaching, and clinical interactions

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    + Three years of experience working as a nursing team member in a veterinary specialty or emergency hospital.

    + Proficiency in veterinary clinical skills at Level 2 Nurse or higher

    + Knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA standards, SDS use, PPE, and infection control

    + High emotional intelligence (EQ), with the ability to foster psychological safety and trust in learning environments

    + Adaptability in teaching styles to support diverse learners

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills

    + Comfortable collaborating across clinical, operational, and leadership teams to achieve safety and training goals

    + Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable with digital tools used for learning and documentation

    + Must be able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes noisy environment.

    + Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Five years of experience working as a nursing team member in a veterinary specialty or emergency hospital.

    + One year of experience in a training/teaching role

    + Credentialed as a Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT)
