    Position Description

    This is a non-Civil Service position in the Office of Family Safety (OFS) that manages the intern, volunteer program and provides community outreach services for Metro’s Office of Family Safety. This position reports to the Director of Outreach and Engagement.

     

    The Intern & Volunteer Coordinator plays a vital role in strengthening the Office of Family Safety’s mission by building, supporting, and recognizing the contributions of interns and volunteers. This position serves as the primary contact for intern and volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, and supervision, while also developing and maintaining strong community partnerships. In addition, the coordinator supports outreach initiatives, community engagement, and survivor leadership opportunities, ensuring that interns and volunteers are meaningfully connected to the work of the Family Safety Center (FSC) and Jean Crowe Advocacy Center (JCAC).

     

    The mission of the Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Office of Family Safety is to increase victim safety and offender accountability by providing vital crisis intervention services to victims of interpersonal violence while maintaining the emotional wellness of service providers. This Mission is accomplished in our court and community-based Family Safety Centers through client advocacy, training, outreach, and multi-disciplinary teams and Family Safety Center collaboration.

     

    The Office of Family Safety (OFS) envisions a city, state, and world without violence where survivors are given hope, healing, and justice.

    Typical Duties

    Intern Management

     

    + Manage the intern program including recruitment, training and onboarding, supervision, administration, and oversight.

    + Build and maintain strong relationships with local colleges and universities to support recruitment.

    + Supervise, mentor, and provide direct support to interns throughout their internship.

    + Train staff on best practices for supervising and engaging interns.

    + Assist with scheduling to ensure consistent coverage at both Family Justice Centers (FJCs).

    + Maintain accurate records, files, timesheets, and data related to interns.

    + Develop and expand partnerships to enhance intern recruitment opportunities.

    + Plan and implement recognition activities that celebrate intern contributions.

    + Collect and track intern-related data.

     

    Volunteer Management

     

    + Lead the recruitment, screening, interviewing, scheduling, and training of volunteers.

    + Provide ongoing support, training, and check-ins to ensure volunteers are equipped for success.

    + Plan and execute formal and informal recognition efforts to celebrate volunteer contributions.

    + Maintain accurate volunteer files and data, reporting to the Director of Outreach and Engagement.

    + Provide support and facilitate the OFS Survivors/Voices Group.

     

    Outreach, Engagement, and Partner Coordination

     

    + Lead outreach efforts for universities, public, private, and charter schools, and therapy centers to build and sustain strong community relationships.

    + Represent the OFS at community outreach and education events.

    + Host tours of the FSC and JCAC

    + Collaborate with community partners to advance the OFS mission and outreach initiatives.

    + Support the planning, coordination, and execution of OFS events.

    + Contribute to OFS social media efforts by highlighting outreach events and initiatives.

    Program Development/Quality Assurance:

    + Adhere to Metro and Grant policies and procedures.

    + Represent OFS at various community events

    + Seek out & obtain outreach requests and opportunities in the public and private sector

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + 4-year degree in related area.

    + Proven track record in project management.

    + Experience supervising staff, volunteers, and interns and demonstrated knowledge of volunteer and intern management.

    + Experience providing training of direct service staff and volunteers.

    + Ability to work sensitively with adults and children who have experienced trauma while maintaining appropriate boundaries and utilizing strengths-based models.

    + Ability to work with diverse populations.

    + Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

    + Effective oral and written communication skills.

    + Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks

    + Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

    + Background check

     

    Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Problem solver, highly efficient, and detail-oriented

    + Experience working on domestic violence, sexual assault or related issues

    + Experience with data management and analytics, particularly Microsoft Access

    + Experience working in or with both non-profits and the criminal justice system

    + Experience working with multidisciplinary teams/collaboratives

    + Experience working under and reporting on grants
