About the Role
Callen-Lorde is seeking a Director of Medicine for our Chelsea location to provide clinical and administrative leadership in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The Director of Medicine ensures high-quality patient care, oversees medical providers, guides professional development, supports operational excellence, and represents the CMO internally and externally when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Administration
+ Collaborate with the CMO and site leadership to provide vision and oversight for primary care services.
+ Supervise Associate Directors of Medicine, Clinical Directors, and Clinical Mentors while supporting the professional growth of new providers.
+ Develop and recommend patient care policies, procedures, and practice protocols.
+ Represent the CMO in their absence, internally and externally.
Clinical Care & Coverage
+ Provide high-quality primary care on a part-time basis, maintaining a panel of patients.
+ Offer after-hours and on-call coverage on a rotating basis.
+ Provide coverage at Chelsea when other medical providers are unavailable.
Quality & Performance Improvement
+ Lead quality improvement initiatives, including setting and monitoring clinical indicators.
+ Conduct peer chart reviews and participate in quality management groups.
+ Monitor provider productivity and ensure alignment with budgetary and performance goals.
Operations & Workflow
+ Partner with Administrative Operations to manage provider schedules and time-off requests.
+ Collaborate with Patient Experience leadership to optimize workflows.
+ Work with referral leadership to build a network of specialists and outside facilities.
+ Coordinate with local hospitals to support patient transfers and admissions.
Training & Development
+ Oversee recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training of medical providers.
+ Conduct 90-day evaluations and ongoing supervision for new staff.
+ Facilitate departmental meetings and provider education.
Community & Representation
+ Represent Callen-Lorde at professional conferences, trainings, and community events.
+ Maintain availability for case presentations, committee consultation, and other organizational needs.
Work Schedule
Callen-Lorde's main site in Chelsea is open Monday through Saturday. This is a full-time exempt position with regular business hours. Occasional evenings and on-call coverage are required.

Qualifications
+ Medical Degree (MD/DO) with active New York State licensure
+ Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine
+ Minimum of 5 years of progressive supervisory/leadership experience in a healthcare setting
+ 3–5 years of direct clinical practice in a community health center, hospital, or similar primary care environment
+ Experience collaborating with hospital systems and managing patient transfers
+ Strong knowledge of FQHC operations, compliance requirements, and healthcare regulations
+ Proven experience in quality management, clinical performance improvement, and productivity monitoring
+ Prior experience in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) or safety-net healthcare environments

+ Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary provider teams and deliver results in high-volume, fast-paced settings
+ Strong data analysis, EMR, and reporting skills (Epic/OCHIN preferred)
