    TASK FORCE: Community Boards

     

    JOB TITLE: One (1) College Aide

    CONTROL CODE: CBR-26-01

    The following is a vacancy within OMB not previously announced:

    SUMMARY:

    The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City government's chief financial agency. OMB's staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayor’s expense and capital budgets, which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.

    We work with the City’s 59 Community Boards by:

    We help oversee the boards’ operating budgets, provide technical budget assistance to the boards, and monitor their personal service and other than personal service expenditures. We update their spending plans after the release of each budget in the annual cycle. Special projects arise when boards such as when they have problems with their real estate expense. We are constantly working on ways to improve all of our processes and systems.

     

    We work with the City’s 59 Community Boards implementing the Charter’s mandate to involve the boards in the budget process. This includes holding various meetings and consultations between community boards and agencies, creating geographic based budget documents for the capital and expense budgets, providing technical assistance to the boards as well as working with them through all phases of the post-Preliminary, Executive and Adopted Budgets.

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Work with the boards to monitor their operating budgets. This includes assisting full-time staff to analyze and process changes within their budgets including personnel changes, updated spending plans, and keeping track of office leases issues

     

    Prepare for the FY 2027 Borough Level Budget Consultations, help publish the Fiscal Year 2026 Adopted Budget Register and other geographical documents and help prepare the electronic submission of community board priorities for Fiscal Year 2027.

     

    An OMB Community Board intern comes away with a sound understanding of both theory and practice of Civic engagement, and what it takes to make a genuine professional contribution through one’s work – a truly unique experience!

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    - Good computer skills are a must including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Professional and Access Databases.

     

    - Interest in the City’s neighborhoods and their issues, problems and needs is very helpful.

     

    - Candidate should be able to reach out and work with the City’s 59 community boards and their staffs.

     

    - In addition, writing, research and analytical skills are also essential.

     

    - An avid interest in city government and the various neighborhoods is extremely important

    REQUIREMENTS:

    A cover letter is required to be considered for this position. Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered.

     

    Graduate College Aides must be currently enrolled in a graduate program. Candidates should have strong analytical, quantitative, research and communication skills. Additionally, candidates must be proficient in MS Word and Excel

     

    Undergraduate College Aides must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university. Strong analytical, research and communications skills are required. Candidates must have familiarity in MS Word and Excel.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    Compensation/Duration:

    Undergraduate College Aide $17per hour

     

    Graduate College Aide $20 per hour

     

    The internship is available during the fall and spring semesters of the 2025 to 2026 school year. The internship will be part-time, with a maximum of 17 hours per week when school is in session. The schedule will be worked out with the selected candidate based on availability. The work must be done during the regular workday, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. – no evenings or weekends.

    Qualifications

    For Assignment Level I:

    Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

    For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):

    Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.

    For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):

    Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

    SPECIAL NOTE

    Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
