    Job Description

    New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM) helps New Yorkers before, during, and after emergencies through preparedness, education, and response. NYCEM is responsible for coordinating citywide emergency planning and response for all types and scales of emergencies. We are staffed by more than 200 dedicated professionals with diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise, including individuals assigned from other City agencies.

     

    The Equity and Diversity Council is committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging across the agency. The Council focuses on fostering an environment that reflects the city's diverse population and ensures equitable opportunities for all. This college aide role offers an exciting opportunity for a self-starting, creative individual to contribute to impactful diversity and equity efforts.

    Description of Project/Intern Responsibilities:

    - Conduct research into current trends, best practices, and emerging topics in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

     

    - Support event planning and coordination for diversity and equity related events and initiatives.

     

    - Assist with administrative tasks, including managing emails, scheduling meetings, and maintaining documentation.

     

    - Contribute to the creation and distribution of the Council’s newsletter, including drafting content and curating relevant resources.

     

    - Compile and manage data related to equity and diversity initiatives, ensuring accuracy and effectiveness of tracking systems.

     

    - Proactively brainstorm and bring forward new, innovative ideas to help advance the Council’s mission.

     

    - Collaborate with Council members on various diversity and equity projects and initiatives.

    Skills/Qualifications:

    - Strong interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.

     

    - Excellent organizational, communication, and administrative skills.

     

    - Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

     

    - Creative thinker with a passion for developing and implementing new ideas.

     

    - Experience with data management and reporting is a plus.

     

    - Prior experience with event planning or content creation is a plus.

    Qualifications

    For Assignment Level I:

    Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

    For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):

    Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.

    For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):

    Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

    SPECIAL NOTE

    Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
