RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides leadership and senior level expertise in network support, as assigned, at The Queen’s Health Systems (QHS); monitors network to ensure enforcement of system standards and maximization of network performance.
• Diagnoses and troubleshoots the most complex issues with network configuration, routers, switches, wireless networks, and other network hardware and software.
• Supports and assists the IT Department in the development of sound practices and solutions for networking issues; develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures.
• Collects and analyzes data from network performance and uptime monitoring tools; provides reports to management for information and assessment of network operations.
• Makes recommendations and offers solutions based on trends to maintain or improve efficient network operations.
• Serves as an escalation point for network related issues.
• Plans and anticipates future business needs with regard to network systems; ensures clear and comprehensive documentation of requirements.
• Monitors, analyzes and leads the planning activities to ensure adequate capacity, availability, and effective use of the latest available technologies.
• Works with Project Management Office (PMO) to coordinate the implementation of related systems/applications as needed.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: All essential, designated by frequency.
• Continuous: seeing, speaking, repetitive arm/hand motions, sitting, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
• Frequent: standing, sitting, walking, finger dexterity, hearing.
• Occasional: stooping/bending, carrying usual weight of 12 pounds, reaching above shoulder level.
• Operates computer equipment and copy machines.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
• Work schedule includes providing 24 hours/7 days a week support as required.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (IT) field or related field; or four (4) years experience managing networks may be substituted for the educational requirement.
• Current certification in at least one (1) of the following; or ten (10) years of Cisco networking experience may be substituted for the certification requirement.
o CCDP: Cisco Certified Design Professional
o CCNP: Cisco Certified Network Professional
o CCDE: Cisco Certified Design Expert
o CCIE: Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert
o SCYBER: Securing Cisco Network with Threat Detection and Analysis
B. EXPERIENCE:
• In addition to the degree requirement, six (6) years of Cisco networking experience, preferably in healthcare in a comparable organization, demonstrating the following: (If experience is substituted for the certification requirement above, the same experience may be used towards the experience requirement.)
o Technical expertise in maintaining a complex, distributed, and mission-critical network.
o Advanced knowledge of firewall configuration and management.
o Strong understanding of how networking technologies meet business needs and requirements.
• In-depth understanding of Cisco technologies; MPLS, LAN/WAN design, protocol analysis highly desirable.
