    Job Description

    Overview:

    The Department of Comparative Medicine is seeking a Research Scientist/Engineer to advance

    biomedical research efforts centered on disease modeling and the development of innovative in vitro

    systems. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in human stem cell culture, 3D tissue modeling, and

     

    in vitro model design to help build next-generation tools for studying disease mechanisms.

    Responsibilities:

    Scientific development and conduct of research (60%)

    • Design, develop, and optimize differentiation protocols from human pluripotent stem cells.

    • Implement advanced research methodologies to address complex questions related to in

     

    vitro disease models.

     

    • Troubleshoot and refine experiments as needed.

    • Perform a range of molecular biology and biochemical assays, including qRT-PCR, Western

     

    blotting, immunofluorescence staining, and maintenance of mammalian cell cultures.

    Data analysis and reporting (15%)

    • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data.

    • Generate figures and visualizations using tools such as GraphPad Prism, Excel, Image Lab,

     

    Canva, and PowerPoint.

     

    • Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts and reports.

    • Present research findings in lab meetings and scientific forums.

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date lab records, both physical and electronic.

    Mentoring and collaboration (15%)

    • Work both independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

    • Mentor undergraduate researchers in daily lab tasks and experimental design.

    Lab operation and maintenance (10%)

    • Oversee organization and maintenance of the laboratory environment, including inventories

     

    and shared resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    -Bachelor’s degree in biological science or a related field and two years of laboratory experience in biomedical research including experience working with Stem Cells

     

    experience.

     

    - Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when

     

    there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    - Extensive research experience in molecular and cellular biology

     

    - Proficiency in culturing and maintaining human pluripotent stem cells (PSCs).

     

    - Experience developing differentiation protocols for specific lineages (e.g., neurons, immune cells).

     

    - Expertise using with genome editing techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9.

     

    - Proven ability to troubleshoot experimental protocols and optimize workflows.

     

    - Strong skills in analyzing experimental results and drawing meaningful conclusions.

     

    - Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

     

    - Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.

     

    - Experience mentoring undergraduate students.

     

    - High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

    Desired:

    - Masters Degree in biological science and at least three years of relevant laboratory experience

     

    - Hands-on experience with iPSC-derived cells or organoids and immunofluorescence imaging.

     

    - Experience with single-cell RNA sequencing and analysis.

     

    - Eagerness to expand technical skills and stay current with scientific advances.

     

    - Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced research environment.

     

    - Strong skills in scientific writing, figure design, and data presentation.

     

    - Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a diverse range of colleagues to achieve research goals

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $61,920.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $113,580.00 annual
