Job Summary
Applications are invited for a Research Investigator in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, in the laboratory of Dr. Vernon Carruthers. The successful candidate will design and perform experiments to define how the intracellular protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii manipulates structures and organelles of infected cells. More specifically, the candidate will employ high content imaging and artificial intelligence computer vision approaches coupled with CRISPR/Cas9 screening to identify parasite genes responsible for manipulating host structures and organelles. The candidate is expected to read and comprehend relevant literature, to generate new ideas for achieving the goals of the project, to help supervise trainees, and to contribute ideas for other projects in the laboratory. The candidate is also expected to share their findings with the lab, department, and broader scientific community by giving seminars, attending conferences, and publishing their work.
Required Qualifications*
Candidates must have a PhD or other relevant doctoral degree, advanced competence in python programming, using computer vision models for image analysis, and 5 years of post-Doctoral research experience in studying Toxoplasma gondii manipulation of infected cells.
