Job Summary
Department Summary:
The University of Michigan's Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC) offers prevention education for students, confidential support for survivors (students, faculty, and staff), and collaborates with others through trainings, programs, and innovative community engagement strategies to collectively create a campus free from violence.
Position Summary:
The Program Manager for Group-Based Interventions & Peer Support serves on the Survivor Care Team and reports to the Associate Director of Survivor Support & Advocacy. The Program Manager develops confidential peer-based support programs for members of the U-M community who have experienced sexual assault, interpersonal violence, stalking, sexual harassment, and other forms of sexual and gender-based misconduct. This includes program development and promotion; student staff supervision, training, and support; program evaluation; and developing partnerships across the institution. This position will provide limited secondary case support, including but not limited to completing single-session intakes with SAPAC clients.
Responsibilities*
Program Development, Management, and Promotion (45%):
+ Coordinate and implement community engagement programming (ex., Wellness Wednesdays) that offers space for campus community members to access self-care and wellness-related activities and resources.
+ Build peer-support programs for students, faculty, and staff who identify as survivors of sexual and/or gender-based violence.
+ Identify professional development opportunities to establish and expand competency related to sexual and gender-based violence group-based interventions.
+ Identify best practices related to intersecting domains of practice to apply to peer-support programs (ex., Clinical group intervention practices, non-clinical group intervention practices, peer-based programming models, etc).
+ Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key institutional partners (ex., Dean of Students Office, Counseling and Peer Services, Faculty and Staff Counseling and Consultation Office, Office of Counseling and Workplace Resilience, etc.) and community members to ensure programming accurately reflects community needs and leverages available university resources.
+ Create and implement necessary program structures (ex., Initial staffing models, distinct programming domains, safety and compliance measures, records retention, intervention materials, training/promotional materials) to support the launching of initial interventions and support ongoing success.
+ Create and disseminate promotional program materials.
+ Create 3-year and 5-year implementation plans, which provide predictions related to potential areas for programmatic growth and potential community needs.
+ Ensure program representation at appropriate community or institutional events to support effective promotion of peer-focused and group-based programming
+ Determine and implement the best evaluation structures to assess the impact and efficacy of the program and identify opportunities for improvement. Maintain/update evaluation materials, and report out findings in a timely, ethical manner.
+ Partner with fellow SAPAC staff members and Unit collaborators (ex., Student Life Research) to ensure new group-based programming is effectively incorporated into existing and future SAPAC evaluation/reporting efforts.
+ Partner with the Associate Director of Survivor Support & Advocacy in contributing to the SAPAC Annual report and ensuring programmatic work is effectively represented in larger unit reporting efforts.
+ Ensure program processes and staff adhere to all compliance requirements of university policy, state laws, and federal legislation.
Staff Supervision, Support, and Training (30%):
+ Provide direct support and supervision to assigned student staff employees and/or graduate student interns.
+ Complete regular supervisory meetings with assigned student staff to ensure program compliance, progress, and staff well-being/development.
+ Create and facilitate staff training to ensure all team members possess the necessary competency to implement assigned program responsibilities/interventions and support program participant well-being/safety.
+ Ensure that program staff/team members possess the necessary knowledge in critical areas that can arise in peer support settings, including lethality concerns, experiences of self-harm, common reactions to trauma (ex., disordered eating, self-medication), and refer/connect to appropriate resources to provide elevated care.
+ Provide ongoing professional development to student staff to support ongoing role effectiveness and competency.
+ Provide on-call support to student staff, while they are facilitating support groups/community-based activities, to provide secondary support in addressing time sensitive/critical needs that may arise during programming (ex. group participant discloses significant suicidal ideation)
+ Provide guidance, support, and problem-solving assistance to program employees/facilitators, including completing necessary documentation that meets both ethical and compliance needs.
+ Support staff in completing any and all necessary documentation that meets both ethical and compliance needs.
+ Approving timesheets/compensation for student staff members
Group Facilitation & Secondary Advocacy/Case Management Services (15%):
+ Provide limited secondary case support, including but not limited to completing single-session intakes with SAPAC clients, providing case support for existing clients for a portion of another Advocate's caseload (ex., vacation, role transitions).
+ Serve on the SAPAC 24-hour crisis line rotation.
+ Depending on future programming efforts, the Program Manager may be required to facilitate or co-facilitate one or more support groups/group-based interventions.
Campus Collaborations and Additional Duties (10%):
+ Participate in Student Life or University of Michigan committees or initiatives that support the mission of SAPAC.
+ Attend weekly SAPAC staff and case management meetings.
+ Attend regular individual meetings with the direct supervisor.
+ Assist and support SAPAC trainings and special events.
+ Assist with weekly, monthly, and yearly statistical tracking and reporting that meet both institutional and legal requirements, such as the Clery Act reporting requirements.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
+ Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Higher Education, or a related field.
+ A minimum of one year of experience in providing direct intervention support (ex., therapy services, advocacy assistance in higher-ed or non-profit settings) to survivors of gender-based and/or sexual violence through either full-time employment, part-time employment, internship, volunteer experience, or other direct intervention work.
+ Experience in program management or project management

Financial/Budgetary Responsibility:
+ Manages a budget of $3,000 for the Peer-Led Support Group program. Reconciles purchases in a timely manner in accordance with university financial policies.
Working Conditions:
+ This position requires that the candidate be able to fulfill rotating 24-hour Crisis Line responsibilities, with at most one day a week, one weekend a month, and one holiday a year being required. SAPAC employees serve as secondary responders as all incoming crisis line calls are screened and responded to by trained Protocall Counselors. SAPAC employees will be required, on rare occasions, to provide remote (i.e., phone) support to survivors presenting for SANE exams, requesting emergency housing, etc. This position may also require regular evening and weekend hours. This position will also receive on-call pay for time spent on the crisis line outside of regular business hours and for assigned holidays.
Physical Requirements:
+ The position may require the employee to remain stationary for 1-2 hour periods during programming events or group sessions.
Direct Reports:
+ The employee will supervise three (3) part-time student staff workers who will each work approximately 10 hours per week. It is possible the Program Manager may supervise additional staff as the programming grows over time.
Additional Information
This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.

Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.
Relocation will not be offered for this role.
