Job Summary
The Department of Cell & Developmental Biology (https://medicine.umich.edu/dept/cell-developmental-biology) (CDB) at the University of Michigan Medical School is dedicated to conducting high-impact research and instructing and guiding trainees in the areas of cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, neuroscience, organogenesis, stem cell biology, and tissue repair and regeneration.
We seek a highly motivated, resourceful individual to serve a research administrator post award specialist. In this position, you will support the continued expansion of the department's highly productive research program by supporting departmental post-award activities. This is a full-time, hybrid position (after initial training, which will be largely be in person).
You will join a skilled workforce and a dedicated team of administrative professionals who support faculty, trainees, and staff, as well as their research, in a wide range of mission-driven functions. Responsibilities*
In this role, you will:
+ Advise Principal Investigators (PIs) on the financial viability and status of their sponsored research projects, training grants, discretionary, and gift funding. Review and analyze accounts and prepare/request journal entries, manage and monitor sub-accounts, rebudgeting, NCTXs, and closeouts.
+ Manage multiple complex grants from various sources of external and internal funding.
+ Work closely with faculty to develop forecasts, and reports for their entire funding portfolio, monitor burn rates, and analyze and explain variances, while keeping the chief department administrator and chair apprised.
+ Offer proactive guidance to faculty on managing their funds by performing monthly reconciliations and analysis.
+ Ensure accurate accounting of all funds and that budgets are aligned with sponsor or donor intent.
+ Review encumbrances to confirm they are properly accounted for and that all funds are managed in compliance with sponsor and institutional policies.
+ Advise administrative and lab staff on the proper procedures for procurement, including what is allowable and allocable.
+ Review receivables and handle invoicing for sponsored activities as needed.
+ Act as a liaison between faculty and Sponsored Programs or ORSP staff to facilitate the setup and closeout of projects in accordance with institutional and sponsor policies.
+ Compile and file all necessary backup documentation.
+ Manage post-award changes, budget allocations to sub-projects, UG Monitoring reports, and other related research administration activities.
+ Collaborate with Michigan Molecular Biophysics Training Program Project Director and Associate Directors to ensure effective planning, financial oversight, and program administration
+ This position reports to the Chief Department Administrator and will work closely with other departmental staff to coordinate the workflow of financial activities.
+ Other departmental duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
+ Bachelor's degree and 3 - 5 years of financial and/or post award experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Detail oriented, have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Adobe Acrobat, and are a passionate learner who loves digging in and finding solutions.
+ You enjoy working with a diverse team and for a diverse range of customers. You have strong skills in both team-based collaboration and individual work.
+ You enjoy providing exceptional customer service, including being professional, timely, flexible, resourceful, empathetic, and positive.
+ You demonstrate a professional demeanor and have strengths in confidentiality and ethical response in all interactions.
Desired Qualifications*
+ A working knowledge of eResearch, M-Pathways, and other internal UM platforms and familiarity with multiple sponsor funding guidelines and UM policies and procedures are a plus.

Background Screening
