Summary of Position
The Department Assistant provides essential administrative support to the Department Chair, ensuring the smooth operation of departmental activities. This role is vital to maintaining an organized and efficient working environment and facilitating communication within the department. The Department Assistant is responsible for a wide range of administrative and clerical tasks, including data management, report generation, scheduling, and initiating and tracking purchase orders. Additionally, the Department Assistant may direct the work of student workers/temporary employees. The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism and discretion, focusing on constructive collaboration.
Minimum Required Education
High School or GED required. Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
Minimum Required Experience
Six years wage earning clerical experience or certification / successful completion of relevant trade school (30 college credits) and two years wage earning clerical experience or Associates Degree and one year wage earning clerical experience is required. Relevant experience in office administration or office management, with a demonstrated ability to efficiently handle a broad range of administrative tasks. Proven experience in handling confidential information and utilizing office software is also essential.
