Construction Manager – Electric Utility Projects

Position Summary:

The Construction Manager is a mid-level field leadership role responsible for overseeing electric utility construction projects, with a focus on transmission and substation work. This role ensures that all aspects of the project—from safety and environmental compliance to engineering and civil construction—are executed efficiently, safely, and to specification. The Superintendent works independently on-site while collaborating daily with construction crews, engineering firms, project management teams, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Lead and manage the full scope of electric utility construction projects, including transmission and substation work.

+ Supervise and coordinate contractors, subcontractors, and craft labor.

+ Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

+ Interpret and apply construction prints, engineering designs, and specifications.

+ Monitor project progress, maintain schedules, and report daily activities.

+ Interface with all levels of craft and management personnel, including leadership.

+ Resolve on-site issues and maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders.

+ Conduct site inspections and safety observations; document findings.

+ Support procurement and logistics of materials and equipment.

+ Maintain accurate records and communicate project status to leadership.

Must-Have Qualifications:

+ Electric utility construction experience — specifically in transmission and/or substation projects.

+ Proven leadership experience in managing field teams and subcontractors.

+ Strong understanding of engineering design, civil construction, and electrical construction.

+ Ability to read and interpret construction prints and technical documents.

+ Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently while collaborating with diverse teams.

Technical Skills:

+ Proficient in computer usage and typing daily reports and safety observations.

+ Familiarity with construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

+ Ability to learn and use various computer applications (training provided).

Work Environment:

+ Field-based role with exposure to outdoor conditions and construction site hazards.

+ Requires independent work and daily interaction with construction crews, engineering firms, project management teams, and internal work groups.

+ May involve extended hours depending on project needs.

+ Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.
