    Position Title: Certified Maintenance - MechanicDepartment: Operations and MaintenanceImmediate Supervisor: Operations Manager Summary:This position performs work in the maintenance and repair of district equipment that require specialized training and experience to insure that interruptions of district operations are kept to a minimum. Perform related work as required to maintain district equipment in a safe, effective condition and assures that overall maintenance needs are met. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned)

     

    + Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical defects/failures in various maintenance equipment, such as fuel, electrical, transmission, steering, braking and hydraulic systems

    + Maintain all equipment to insure proper operation and safety.

    + Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventative maintenance for all equipment.

    + Trains and evaluates staff on equipment operations, preventative maintenance procedures, and new equipment orientations.

    + Communicate with the staff to ensure all the equipment is safe to use and available for daily and weekly tasks.

    + Maintain fuel, oil and equipment and parts inventories.

    + Maintain a safe, clean and organized shop and work environment at all times.

    + Provide functional supervision to insure operation and maintenance equipment is used according to standard operation procedure.

    + Maintains a preventative maintenance program within budget on all equipment and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies.

    + Build a positive working relationship with school administrators, custodians and other employees of the district.

    + Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with Supervisor and/or other on-site personnel.

    + Work independently during the normal workday and during off hours on an on-call status as needed.

    + Comply with OSHA regulations/guidelines regarding materials and safety, as established by OSHA guidelines.

    + Participate as directed in any training and development programs identified by the Supervisor; keep current on relevant information and technology.

    + Regular and reliable attendance.

    + Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education or Experience4-5 years of automotive or diesel experience preferredHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredMust be able to perform at a journeyman level in his/her field.ASE certified Auto Technician/experience level required.Class B CDL license preferred or be able to obtain Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Able to read, write and interpret rules, reports and procedure manuals as required to perform assignments.Able to perceive identification numbers marked on material; read and understand numbers and volumes; and transcribe numbers.Possess a valid Iowa Drivers’ license. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and waist more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. with assistance. The employee will sometimes push/pull items. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to transport supplies and equipment from one location to another. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
