Position Overview:
The Research & Data Associate will assist with OHEP's research projects designed to expand access to higher education for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, while assessing outcomes associated with higher education in this population. The associate will engage in conversations with the OHEP team and external stakeholders as the research agenda is developed, create tools to be used for research, help execute that research, and contribute to written reports of findings from research. The Research & Data Associate will also contribute to the ongoing maintenance of data systems within OHEP (e.g. databases and dashboards), enabling an ongoing data-driven approach within OHEP and in the Higher Education in Prison (HEP) space more broadly.
Responsibilities:
+ Work with OHEP's data and research team to design and carry out research studies aligned with OHEP's broader research agenda, using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
+ Analyze data from OHEP research studies and translate findings into actionable insights for program and/or policy improvements in the HEP space.
+ Create discussion guides, survey instruments, and other research tools used for the execution of OHEP research studies.
+ Contribute to ongoing maintenance of OHEP data systems, participating in regular data quality checks, writing data system documentation, and refining data dashboards.
+ Work with all members of the OHEP team to integrate actionable research and real-time data to drive program and process improvement, enhancing a data-driven approach.
Job Requirements:
Required Education/Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree and 2 years of working experience in social science, or public policy research, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Skilled in communicating research findings to audiences of varying backgrounds, translating findings to actionable insights, both in writing and in presentations.
+ Baseline knowledge and understanding of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods in human-centered research, i.e., research aimed at understanding the needs of users of a product or service.
+ Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g. Excel or similar tools).
Preferred Education/ Qualifications:
+ Master's degree in a social science or public policy related field.
+ Experience writing publication-worthy reports or articles presenting findings from primary research.
+ Demonstrated expertise in designing and carrying out human-centered, IRB-approved research studies.
+ Experience using data analysis and visualization tools (R, Power BI, Tableau).
+ Knowledge of NYS, justice, higher education, policy, or related
Compensation: $75,000-$80,000
