    Job Summary

    The College of Innovation and Technology is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow for a full year (12 months). The position is focused on LiDAR sensors and sensing systems. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Ahmad Alsharoa on cutting-edge projects involving the application of LiDAR and other sensor modalities in real-world environments, including smart system, healthcare monitoring, and activity recognition. The candidates will have opportunities to work with outstanding collaborators at all three University of Michigan campuses.

     

    This is a full-time, benefits-eligible appointment for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.

    Responsibilities*

    + Design, implement, and evaluate LiDAR-based experiments in lab and real-worldsettings.

    + Develop and test algorithms for object detection, tracking, and classification usingLiDAR sensors.

    + Help guide and mentor graduate students and other junior team members working onthe project.

    + Publish research findings in top-tier journals and conferences.

    + Assist in proposal development and grant writing.

    + Ensure that all research is conducted in an ethical manner and in compliance withsafety standards and data protection regulations. This includes managing sensitive data correctlyand guaranteeing that machine learning applications are developed with ethical considerations inmind.

    + Participate in regular meetings with the research group.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a relatedfield.

    + Proven experience working with LiDAR sensors, point cloud data processing, andsensor integration.

    + Strong background in signal processing, computer vision, or machine learning.

    + Proficient in programming languages such as Python, C++, and MATLAB.

    + Strong publication record in relevant research areas.

    + Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

     

    Modes of Work

    Hybrid:

    The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.

     

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
