In this position...
The Aerodynamics group is responsible for full vehicle aerodynamics development utilizing experimental and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods. This group has a career opportunity to join the team as a Wind Tunnel Model Design Engineer to expand our testing capabilities. We seek an individual with drive and excitement for experimental aerodynamics and ideas to further expand testing capabilities.
**What you'll do..** .
+ MODEL DEVELOPMENT AND COORDINATION:
+ Develop wind tunnel models (primarily full-scale) to be tested in moving ground wind tunnels. Work with the program engineers to ensure model meets requirements.
+ CAD design parts and assemblies for wind tunnel models.
+ Organize the building of the model to ensure all aspects of the model are correctly implemented.
+ Organize the model milling / off-site prep, coordinating with the program engineer for the test slot. Upon model arriving at the tunnel, lead the prep work for testing.
+ Work with advanced manufacturing to have sub-assemblies, components manufactured. Or lead internal team manufacture of prototype parts and assemblies using a mixture of 3d printing and clay milling assets.
+ WIND TUNNEL TESTING:
+ Assist with physical tests to determine aerodynamic drag and lift performance of studio themes and prototype / production vehicles and develop roadmap actions to achieve targets. Oversee model changes during wind tunnel test.
+ PREPARATION OF INTERNAL AND CUSTOMER STATUS REPORTS
+ Prepare summary of initial design changes, have changes ready for clay modelers, and information for program and wind tunnel teams
+ Document lessons learned, support peer review and program review meetings
+ METHODOLOGY
+ Develop and implement new model capabilities, methodologies and tools
+ Train/support the attribute implementation team use of new models
+ Continue to investigate sophisticated experimental techniques to improve wind tunnel model capabilities
+ WORK FLEXIBILITY:
+ Ability to work flexible hours due to occasional nonstandard testing periods in wind tunnel
+ Occasional travel to support offsite wind tunnel testing
You'll have...
+ Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
+ 3+ years of experience in wind tunnel testing and/or experimental fluids testing methods.
+ 3+ CAD experience with surfacing, mechanical build, structural, and moveable components as well as assembly design.
+ Self-directed, confident, and resilient individual with excellent personal communication skills.

+ Master’s degree or higher in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
+ Excellent work planning, issue resolution skills
+ Experience in wind tunnel testing and/or experimental fluids testing methods
+ Preferred candidate to have extensive experience with CAD for test rigs and models used in wind tunnels and kinematic assembly design.
+ Experience with CAD and CFD software (e.g. CATIA, SolidWorks, ProE, OpenFOAM, PowerFLOW, CCM+, etc.)

This position is a range of salary grades 6-8 .
