    Position Summary:

    Tenure-track faculty in the Foundations and Social Advocacy Department contribute to the College’s values of inclusive excellence through outstanding teaching, research and/or scholarship, service to the department and college, and by providing academic advisement and mentoring to/for all students.

    THE DEPARTMENT : The Foundations and Social Advocacy Department offers degree programs in Inclusive Education (B.S.) and Teaching Students with Disabilities PK-12 (M.S. Ed.). The department also houses Cortland’s Urban Recruitment of Educators program and the Educational Leadership Programs. The Department promotes a reflective, critical, interdisciplinary approach to understanding the multiple and shifting contexts and practices of education. Faculty and students advocate for social justice and equity in education through teacher preparation emphasizing inclusive education, foundations of education, and urban education.

    STARTING SALARY : $62,545-$65,675

    Major Responsibilities:

    Teaching

     

    Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in inclusive education, including those with field experiences and with online components. Typical course topics include: Introduction to Inclusive Education, Inclusive Pedagogy and Universal Design, Assessment, Behavior, Supporting Students with Complex Needs and Working with Families and Communities of Students with Disabilities.

     

    Scholarship/Research

     

    Engage in scholarly activities that result in academic presentations and publications.

     

    Service

     

    Participate in the affairs of the Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, the School of Education and the SUNY Cortland college community, which includes but is not limited to academic advising, committee work and curriculum development.

    Required Qualifications:

    + Earned doctorate or doctoral candidate, all but dissertation ( ABD ) (with designated date of completion within one year of appointment) in Inclusive Education, Special Education, or closely related field

    + Demonstrated study and knowledge of the field of inclusive education and disability studies

    + Evidence of a scholarly agenda, including research-based presentations and/or publications

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Elementary or secondary school teaching certification and experience

    + Knowledge of inclusive special education professional standards and inclusive practices in education

    + Experience working collaboratively across diverse settings including in professional development schools and/or in partnerships with P-12 schools

    + Exemplary teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level in a variety of formats (e.g. face-to- face, online, blended); demonstrated ability to utilize technology and integrate it into instruction; demonstrated commitment to diversity and community outreach

    + Record of scholarly work and teaching from a disability studies framework

    + Experience and/or expertise in one or more of the following areas: co-teaching, teaching English language learners, urban education, culturally relevant or responsive teaching, specially designed instruction, and universal design for learning
