Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Albany, New York. This is a hybrid Contract-to-permanent position, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a nonprofit, very well-known in the Capital Region. The ideal candidate will be responsible for key accounting functions and will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial operations.

Responsibilities:

• Perform month-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

• Manage and maintain the general ledger, including preparing and posting journal entries.

• Reconcile accounts and bank statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial standards.

• Handle large sets of financial data, utilizing advanced Excel functions such as pivot tables and vlookups.

• Oversee accounting for endowment funds, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address discrepancies and streamline processes.

• Support audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries.

• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities to support organizational goals.

• Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

• Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives within the accounting department.

Requirements • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or a related field.

• Proficiency in month-end close, general ledger management, and journal entries.

• Strong skills in account and bank reconciliations.

• Experience working with endowment funds and large data sets.

• Advanced knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables and vlookups.

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
