    Position Summary

    In this position, you will support the Aetna pharmacy legal and business teams with respect to a wide range of pharmacy matters including, but not limited to: market conduct exams, regulatory, compliance, risk management, and new business initiatives.

     

    The attorney in this role will be expected to provide proactive risk management support. You will identify business and legal risks and provide solutions that balance legal issues and business objectives. You will be expected to work diligently to develop and maintain positive relationships with various clients. You will be required to exercise superior writing and communication skills, with strong attention to detail. The attorney in this role must also work collaboratively in a large, complex corporate structure.

    Major Responsibilities may include:

    1. Regulatory and General Legal Support

    + Work collaboratively with Aetna Pharmacy Counsel Regional Counsel, Compliance, Government Affairs and business operations teams to help implement policies and/or practices in response to new laws and regulations;

    + Collaborate with the business on the development and review of sensitive internal and external communications to various stakeholders (senior executives, regulators, lawmakers, advocates, members)

    + Assist with responses to Market Conduct Exams;

    + Assist with various regulatory filings, as needed;

    + Perform state specific research relating to issues raised while supporting pharmacy functions as requested;

    + Collaborate to conduct and implement federal and state specific legal research involving pharmacy and/or health care services;

    + Work with the business and internal and external counsel to resolve disputes prior to arbitration/litigation;

    + Provide day to day risk management support for Aetna pharmacy business area;

    + Collaborate and work effectively with enterprise business and legal teams;

    2. Contracting

    + Provide support and/or drafting of pharmacy related agreements;

    + Assist with negotiation of intercompany and external pharmacy agreements;

    + Provide regulatory expertise as it relates to the development of new templates or the negotiation of current templates;

    + Draft new templates in response to business needs.

    3. New Products/Initiatives/Expansions

    + Provide guidance related to new products/initiatives/service area expansions, related to pharmacy;

    + Assist with review and guidance on of regulations applicable to new pharmacy business.

    Required Qualifications

    + Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited institution required; Bar admission in good standing

    + 6+ years legal experience

    + Experience with regulatory issues required;

    + Demonstrated business judgment and acumen required;

    + Superior oral and written communication skills required;

    + High level of interpersonal skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Knowledge of pharmacy laws;

    + Experience working with state regulators and/or responding to state inquiries and exams preferred;

    + At least 2 years’ experience in a law firm health care practice; or in-house experience at a managed care company; or governmental experience preferred.

    Pay Range

    The typical pay range for this role is:

    $175,100.00 - $334,750.00

     

    This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
