The Department of Neuroscience at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of peripheral sensory neuron biology, evaluation of skin immunity, and helminth parasitology work. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
Responsibilities may include working independently and as part of collaborative research groups studying the effects of helminth parasitic formulations on calcium influx, neuropeptide release, and behavior induced by specific subsets of itch-inducing neurons. Moreover, this position will evaluate the in vivo transcriptional effects induced by itch-transmitting neurons on sort-purified keratinocytes.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to develop independence in research through leadership and mentorship training as well as grant and peer-reviewed manuscript preparation.
