Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Performance Optimization department, specifically, within one of our Fleet Turbine departments in SPS region. The paid internship provides an opportunity to showcase your abilities in one of our engineering groups that supports various business units throughout the company. The program provides practical work experience to develop your existing skillset, present to senior leadership, and collaborate with key internal stakeholders. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands-on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns across the Energy Supply organization.

Project Description:

Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Performance Optimization department, specifically, within one of our Fleet Turbine departments in SPS region. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands-on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns across the Energy Supply organization.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

+ Participate in onsite troubleshooting of the turbine/generator systems across the region

+ Assist with updates, data maintenance, and analysis.

+ Assist with vibration and online monitoring systems

+ Generate outage summary updates and reports

This position is for a June 1, 2026 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

+ Current student, Sophomore status (as of May 2026) or higher

+ Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering (Mechanical Preferred)

+ Able to commute to 790 Buchanan and various Generating Plants across the SPS region as needed.

+ Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the spring (up to 20 hours a week).

Preferred Qualifications:

+ 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher

+ Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.70 to $30.10 per hour

This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
