    Job Description

    Primary Responsibilities: The Sustainability and Compliance (S&C) Associate is responsible for developing and coordinating the sustainability initiatives within the single-family home rental industry for Maymont Homes, and supporting the implementation of policies and procedures meant to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards. The S&C Associate will work across all the organization with the HR team, Operations, Acquisitions, and others, along with Senior Leadership to develop, implement, and monitor the organization’s sustainability efforts and ensure compliance with applicable business and legal policies. A principal area of focus will be on effective reporting for Green House Gas emissions in coordination with Simple Bills and Deepki, serving as the primary liaison for those organizations on emissions reporting.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a related role (either in a compliance or sustainability function), ideally at a real estate, investment management or other corporate organization.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Finance, Business, Science, Communications, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

    • Proven project management skills, attention to detail in analyzing and managing large data sets.

    • Awareness of and prior experience with sustainability reporting frameworks is preferred.

    • Proficient at Microsoft Office programs to include Excel.

    • Ability to articulate a sustainability strategy that is directly tied to the business' strategies and goals.

    • Good training skills, capable of developing and delivering sustainability related training across the organization.

    • OSHA certified or willing to gain safety certifications.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills reporting to senior leadership.

    • Change management experience in a fast-paced organization.

    • Vendor management experience preferred.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Create policies and guidelines to drive reductions in GHG emissions and other environmental impacts; to foster engagement with residents, community organizations, investors, and other stakeholders; to enhance the rental experience for existing and potential residents; and to minimize risks to the company.

    • Track laws or regulations impacting the business and offer suggestions to functional managers seeking to ensure compliance.

    • Conduct periodic tests and audits of organizational operations for compliance purposes.

    • Support leadership in driving the education, communication, and implementation of sustainability initiatives across the organization.

    • Develop and execute corporate sustainability initiatives and strategies; monitor performance.

    • Responsible for developing and achieving annual and long-term sustainability goals in alignment with company requirements.

    • Engage with internal and external stakeholders presenting regular sustainability reports; conduct sustainability assessments.

    • Responsible for annual reporting as it relates to company sustainability reporting requirements.

    • Develop and implement reporting in accordance with the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and other industry standards to include iLevel reporting.

    • Execute program management and change management functions related to sustainability initiatives.

    • Assess the financial impact of sustainability initiatives.

    • Provide safety practices and policy training to appropriate areas, ensure relevant employees and contractors receive appropriate training.

    • Monitor, review, and sustain the corporate emergency preparedness response plan.

    • Works with internal legal regarding safety incident investigations and carries out analysis of statistics to create an improvement plan.

    • Act as a sustainability subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.

    • Develop the appropriate strategies to address sustainability risks and their potential impacts.

    • All other duties as assigned.

    Key Metrics & Responsibilities

    • Report sustainability benchmarks accurately and on time

    • Maintain and update compliance policies and procedures, including timely reporting as required

    Physical Requirements

    • Capable of working extended hours, to include evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary.

    • Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.

    • Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities, to include the exchange and receipt of information over the telephone.

    • Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 25 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day. Must also be able to climb several flights of stairs, if necessary.

    • Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented, and with good reasoning skills.

    • Must have finger dexterity for typing/using a keyboard.

    Environmental Requirements

    • Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and delays. Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances. For safety reasons, employee must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns.

    • Must be able to work effectively and cheerfully in an environment which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.

    • Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a remote and on site manner, as regularly scheduled.

    • Reliable transportation to meet schedule work environment.
