The Winchell lab is seeking to fill a part-time Assistant Research Scientist position starting September 23, 2025 for a project on urban evolutionary ecology, with a focus on lizards. Responsibilities may include local fieldwork, animal husbandry, and data processing. The applicant will be primarily responsible for care and maintenance of a captive lizard colony.
The candidate should have an undergraduate degree in some field of biology. A master’s degree in Biology is strongly preferred, with relevant course-work or thesis on evolutionary ecology.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act the annual base salary range for this position i s $18/hr for 20 hours per week. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Qualifications being sought are experience in field herpetology and care of captive reptiles. Experience working with Anolis or Podarcis species in the wild and/or captivity is preferred, and experience with animal husbandry of reptiles is required. In addition, a background in evolutionary ecology is desirable, particularly as it relates to urban environments. The researcher hired for the position will help Dr. Winchell and Dr. Thonis with the initiation of a field- and museum-based research project on Podarcis, and on a captive breeding project on Anolis.
