Overview
Bowhead seeks an Engineering Technician to join a team supporting the Army Research Lab on Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.
Responsibilities
Performs standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations. Follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments; technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion; non-routine work may also be reviewed in progress. Performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:
Specific Roles and Responsibilities:
+ Following specific instructions, assembles or constructs simple or standard equipment or parts; may service or repair simple instruments or equipment.
+ Conducts a variety of tests using established methods. Prepares test specimens, adjusts and operates equipment, and records test data, pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors.
+ Records pertinent data in the appropriate shot logs on the facility, paying attention to detail and making precise measurements.
+ Gathers and maintains specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performs computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.
+ Performs a wide variety of facility maintenance, including grass cutting, operating string trimmers, cleaning and organizing in preparation for tours, demos, and inspections.
+ Records projectile, target and test data on appropriate form or notebook; enters some data into electronic file format, which is either a standard used at the facility or one provided by project engineer. Reviews data entries for errors or inconsistencies.
+ Follows appropriate standard operating procedures and adheres to applicable safety and security practices. Practices good housekeeping at facility to ensure that all procedures and practices are maintained, including periodic cleaning of experimental facilities, offices, and storage areas.
+ Records all applicable and specified setup and experimental data onto appropriate form or notebook; enters some data into electronic file format, which is either a standard used at the facility or one provided by project engineer. Reviews data entries for errors or inconsistencies.
+ Assists with preparation for experiments by assembling target stands and associated hardware. Loads x-ray cassettes, sets up targets, data capturing equipment, and other hardware associated with small caliber ballistic testing. After the completion of experiments, cleans up all associated post-test debris and assists with collection of onsite data.
+ Transports ammunition and related hardware to and from experimental facilities, ammunition plants, and ammunition magazines upon training and certification as Ammo Handler.
+ Assists in data capture via Powermax 1260 X-ray machine.
+ Is current technician responsible for small engine modifications and repairs at EF-9 facility.
Qualifications
Individual Must Possess:
+ Familiarity with ballistic testing practices, becoming proficient operating a wide variety of facility equipment under direction of a higher grade technician, including but not limited to: High Speed digital cameras, x-rays, scanners, oscilloscopes, still digital cameras, etc. Works with higher grade technicians in the operations of x-rays and high speed digital cameras, being responsible for working out timing and lighting issues.
+ Becomes and maintains Depleted Uranium (DU) Qualified and Respirator Qualified. Is subject to all medical surveillance methods to stay certified to work with DU and associated x-ray equipment.
+ Capable of operating a wide variety of facility maintenance equipment, zero-turn mowers, tractors, gators, etc. Assists in snow removal as well.
+ Maintains the capability to certify MPPEH for disposal of range debris/materials.
Individual must successfully complete:
+ Training to complete Small Caliber Gunner (SC1).
+ Training to operator both fixed and swing-cab cranes.
+ Certification to operate the Powermax 1260 X-ray machine.
+ Training Hazardous Waste (HW102).
+ Training and certification in CPR, AED, and Control the Bleed.
+ Training program and Ammo Handler certification by the ARL Explosives Safety Officer.
+ Licensing to operate forklift and range vehicles.
Physical Requirements:
+ The duties require a significant amount of physical labor associated with setup and teardown of equipment and materiel at test sites.
+ Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.
+ Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, or stooping.
+ Must be able to work in typical local weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces.
Education
High school or Vocational Technical School at a minimum.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be ble to obtain Secret security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
