    JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

    This position leads the design, implementation, maintenance and support of database environments. This role includes the development and design of database strategies, monitoring and improving database performance and capacity, and planning for future expansion requirements for the most complex projects, working independently. This position requires the necessary skills to coordinate and support other database administrators, architects and programmers. Database Administrators are expected to mentor, coach, and train less tenured team members.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform complex database design tasks related to the establishment of the structure of a database, including analysis, logical data model review, and physical database design.

    • Design backup/recovery/reorg strategies for database and system resources as well as security and replication strategies.

    • Develop and implement database monitoring procedures to maximize availability and performance of the database while meeting defined targets.

    • Develop and plan for infrastructure and operational changes such as database upgrades, code migrations, and applications/infrastructure upgrades.

    • Troubleshoot root cause of database issues and recommend solutions or workaround.

    • Evaluate upgrades to determine changes needed before implementation or how to leverage upgrade functionality.

    • Macro view and understanding of system/data administration to target changes at a micro level to improve performance.

    • Develop, manage, and monitor highly complex infrastructure and database configurations/changes or upgrades.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related degree with eight plus years of experience in a database environment on an enterprise scale or equivalent combination in education, training and/or certification(s).

     

    • Proven advanced knowledge and application of LUWDB2, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL databases.

    • Support of database applications running on physical hardware; in a virtual environment (hypervisor such as Nutanix AHV); or in the cloud (AWS, Azure, etc.)

    • Advanced skills to debug and dig deeply into one specific task to uncover root cause and provide solution(s).

    • Expert understanding of physical data modeling, database design principals, programming, and a system development lifecycle.

    • Ability to plan, implement, test, and troubleshoot system software.

    • Advanced shell scripting skills.

    • Proven ability to develop systems solutions for operational problems.

    • Demonstrated ability to learn and support new hardware, software and operating systems and apply innovative business solutions.

    • Experience leading a project.

    • Proficient ability to plan, organize and work on multiple tasks.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $65.00/hr.
