    About the Position

    Perform a variety of maintenance duties as part of a comprehensive outdoor program for University grounds. Responsibilities include constructing, maintaining, modifying, and repairing features such as roads, parking lots, landscapes, athletic fields, walkways, irrigation and utility systems, and large brick hardscapes.

     

    Duty: Perform semi-skilled maintenance and construction work on buildings, fixtures, equipment, trees, grounds, irrigation systems, walks, and driveways.

    Tasks include:

    + Build and repair roads and walkways.

    + Repair and renovate campus grounds.

    + Assist other shops involving the maintenance and repair of the outdoor utilities.

    + Operate chainsaws and know how to properly fall and remove campus trees.

     

    Duty: Operate other power tools and equipment and motorized equipment in the performance of job duties.

    Tasks include:

    + Safe operation of man lifts, compressors, chippers, equipment trailers, jackhammers etc.

    + Drive and operate a small dump truck

    + Drive forklifts, Tele handlers, small tractors, mini-excavators, and front end loaders.

    + Operate large mowers.

     

    Duty: Maintain storm water system.

    Tasks include:

    + Clean and maintain all catch basins, drains and pipes on campus.

    + Drive and operate a Vactor truck.

     

    Duty: Event set-up on athletic fields

    Tasks include:

    + Maintain both natural and artificial turf fields as needed to ensure longevity.

    + Perform needed tasks for athletic events.

     

    Duty: Other duties as needed

    Tasks include:

    + During periods of inclement weather involving snow, operate a variety of vehicles (sanding truck with snow blade, John Deere tractor, John Deere Gator) in order to clear streets, parking lots, and sidewalks.

    + Apply sand and de-ice during periods of inclement weather.

    + Remove trash and other waste on campus.

    Required Qualifications

    + High school graduation or equivalent

    + Position requires a minimum of two years’ work experience involving:

    + Grounds maintenance;

    + Outdoor utility construction, maintenance or repair;

    + Light carpentry; and

    + landscape construction, maintenance or repair.

    + Demonstrated experience or ability to perform work in a commercial and/or institutional setting.

    + Ability to maintain and use hand and power tools safely as required for the trade.

    + Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to starting work in order to drive a state-owned vehicle for travel to work locations.

    + Physically perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Additional outdoor construction experience.

    + Demonstrated construction equipment operation including backhoes, excavators, and trailers.

    + Demonstrated experience operation with Vactor trucks.

    + CDL Class A driver’s license.

    + Knowledge of: applicable Washington Administrative Code (WAC) regulations, and local building and plumbing codes.

    + Knowledge of: Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA), Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) rules and regulations, standard job safety rules, proper use of a face respirator.

    Salary$3,995 - $4,560/month depending on qualifications and experience
