Description of Job
The Nurse Manager/Staffing Development Coordinator/Unit Manager is a clinically competent nurse who assists with managing, coordinating, and evaluating the staff development program in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and Fitzsimon’s policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for providing supervision and direction to nursing positions to assure the delivery of quality patient care. The position, when acting as the on-call nurse, has the ultimate responsibility for maintaining safe, adequate nursing coverage for all or multiple residential neighborhoods in the facility. On-call coverage required may include assuming the role of House Supervisor, which includes the delivery of quality nursing care for all neighborhoods in the facility.
Additionally, as the Nurse Manager/Staffing Development Coordinator, you will:
+ Supervise and direct subordinate staff in their delivery and provision of patient care
+ Collaborate in the provision of patient care with a multi-disciplinary team
+ Maintain documentation of various systems, which include, but are not limited to, skin, falls, weight loss, and others
+ Effective communication at all levels, which includes physicians, families, residents, peers, subordinates, and supervisors
+ Must be able to communicate effectively with both verbal and written skills
+ Documents, reports, and maintains records
+ Manage, coordinate, and evaluate the Staff Development program
+ Responsible and accountable for all aspects of the Staff Development program, including developing and facilitating trainings, drafting and implementing training/education policies/protocols, tracking compliance, evaluating, and reporting the program
+ Review incident reports to spot trends and develop training based on the needs of the facility
+ Coordinate state-directed training, seminars, conferences, and professional meetings
+ Establishes and maintains core nursing competencies specific to the facility
+ Attend regular leadership and staff meetings, including Human Resources trainings
+ Create and maintain a training calendar, including arranging for other experts to assist in facilitating training as able
+ Develop and implement staff development and clinical education strategic goals that are in alignment with facility and Division goals
+ Evaluate the results of the Staff Development program to determine successes and future needs of the program
+ Assist in the preparation of the departmental budget as applicable
+ Maintain and support a culture of compliance, ethics, and integrity
+ Assists in the administration of all required trainings
+ Create and facilitate in-service programs to educate, correct, and train employees on all aspects of nursing
+ Create, implement, provide, and facilitate orientation for all employees
+ Observe and mentor new and current staff to ensure the highest level of quality resident care
+ Develop and implement trainings that provide for the practical application of the material or theory being taught
+ Provide supplemental training and education as applicable for identified performance concerns
+ Provide feedback to supervisors regarding an employee’s aptitude and knowledge on clinical/nursing practices
+ Coach, mentor, and guide all CNAs, LPNs, and RNs on proper procedures/protocols on clinical/nursing practices
+ Act as a floor nurse or charge nurse, providing direct care to residents as needed
+ Track and record training histories in an employee’s file and provide regular reports and updates on compliance with training objectives
+ Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
+ Current, valid licensure as an RN from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
AND
+ Three (3) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position
Substitutions
Appropriate education will substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience on a year-for-year basis
Special Qualifications:
+ RN License and CPR Card
Conditions of Employment:
+ CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)
+ Vaccinations as required by state and facility
+ Day, evening, and night shifts to include holidays & weekends as needed
+ Required to obtain a CPR card
+ Possess and maintain a Colorado RN license in good standing
Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must (1) disclose that information on the application (2) provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position, (3) provide the employee number from the applicant’s prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination, and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
