    Do you enjoy problem-solving, helping others, and feeling part of a kind and collaborative team? UPMC Western Maryland is looking for a full-time Dietitian and may be the place for you! This role will support the inpatient team, as well as some home care and outpatient nutrition support (tube feeding and TPN patients).

     

    We are a hospital located in Cumberland, MD, a historic city along the Potomac River with a great outdoor scene, which includes local hiking/biking trails and lakes. Cumberland is surrounded by other quaint towns like Frostburg, MD and Bedford, PA and is within driving distance of Pittsburgh, PA; Annapolis, MD; Morgantown, WV; and Washington DC. At UPMC Western Maryland, our inpatient team manages all aspects of nutrition care across diverse patient populations, such as GI, renal, pulmonary, oncology, cardiac, surgical, and critical illness. We also have a growing outpatient clinic that provides Medical Nutrition Therapy, Diabetes Self-Management Training, Home Care, and other community programs.

     

    This position is daylight with some flexibility regarding exact hours. The selected candidate will work occasional weekends and holidays.

     

    Our recruitment team will also work with you to determine the best title (UPMC Dietitian or UPMC Dietitian II) and pay based on your experience. The requirements for Dietitian and Dietitian II are listed below with corresponding pay.

    Dietitian Responsibilities (minimum hourly pay rate - $23.14):

     

    + Provides quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care.

    + Demonstrates effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.

    + Provides appropriate nutrition education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.

    + Writes orders appropriately as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.

    + Formulates a Nutrition Diagnosis and identifies malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment Exam and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.

    + Provides timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.

    + Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units &/or committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.

    + As required, professional communication skills (verbal and written) adaptable to all health literacy levels in regards to preparing education materials, presentations and other communications.

    + As required, knowledgeable about follows outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges within regulatory requirements.

    + Participates in department-based Quality Process Improvement activities with an ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice.

    + Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    Dietitian II Responsibilities (minimum hourly pay rate - $24.96):

     

    + Provides quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care.

    + Demonstrates effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.

    + Provides appropriate nutrition education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.

    + Writes orders appropriately as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.

    + Formulates a Nutrition Diagnosis and identifies malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment Exam and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.

    + Provides timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.

    + Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units &/or committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.

    + Provides in-servicing or CEU opportunities to the multidisciplinary team at the department or facility level.

    + Mentors and trains dietetic students, interns and support personnel and provides feedback for student and program improvement.

    + Leads one department initiative annually with the ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice.

    Dietitian Educational and Knowledge Requirements:

    + Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.

    + Analytical skills to accurately assess, plan, and evaluate outcomes.

    + Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and collaborate in a team environment.

    + Strong nutrition education/counseling and mentoring skills.

    + Critical thinking skills for sound decision making.

    Dietitian Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) within 9 months of hire

    + Registered Dietitian (RD) within 6 months of hire

    Dietitian II Educational and Knowledge Requirements:

    + Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics degree with 2 years clinical nutrition experience and be a registered dietitian _OR_

    + Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with 1 year of clinical nutrition experience and a registered dietitian required.

    + Analytical skills to accurately assess, plan, and evaluate outcomes. Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and collaborate in a team environment.

    + Strong nutrition education/counseling and mentoring skills.

    + Critical thinking skills for sound decision making.

    Dietitian II Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Registered Dietitian (RD) required.

    + Licensed Dietitian (LDN) required.

    + Driver's License
