The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is seeking to fill one (1) part-time Education Consultant 1 position in St. Paul, Minnesota. This position exists to lead, administer, and develop the educational program of the Minnesota Minerals Education Workshop (MMEW). The MMEW is an annual three-day workshop for K-12 educators. The workshop involves classroom instruction, guest lectures, and all-day field trips. This position will be responsible for bringing together the state's leading geologists, industry, academia, and K-12 educators to help develop classroom curriculum about earth science, Minnesota Mining history, Minnesota Mineral potential, and the application of geosciences in mining. It will lead the planning and organization of the workshop.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+ Oversight of volunteers
+ Scheduling, development and distribution of instruction materials
+ Promotion of MMEW event on social media and conferences
+ Registration
+ Field trip planning and coordination
+ Budget management
+ Communicating the workshop activities with the Sponsoring Board - Minnesota Center for Mineral Resource Education (MCMRE)
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in a related area such as education, natural resources, geology, or mining.
+ Two (2) years of experience teaching programs related to natural resource management, or adult training and curriculum development related to resource management issues. A Master's degree in one of the above areas may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
+ Knowledge of mining and geology, education trends, issues and development occurring in mining education field sufficient to develop the MMEW.
+ Experience using standard Microsoft and Adobe software sufficient to create correspondence, reports, educational, and training materials and manage databases.
+ Ability to organize and lead a group to establish trust, confidence and partnerships that advance priorities in the Division of Lands and Minerals and the MMEW.
+ Ability to compile materials and organize and analyze data to support program development, administration or evaluation by planning and outlining procedures necessary in the collection, compilation of data, and presenting suggested approaches to committees and program partners.
+ Ability to teach basic pedagogy concepts to natural resource professionals to advance their ability to best serve Minnesota educators and students.
+ Knowledge of principles and practices of geology and mining.
+ Human Relation skills sufficient to motivate, provide guidance and achieve cooperation, and commitment to program objectives.
+ Demonstrated communication skills sufficient to conduct workshops, make effective presentations, promote education programs, document program initiatives and results, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Knowledge of mineral potential and geology to sufficiently plan, and implement workshop activities and to support and promote the MMEW to K-12 educators.
+ Knowledge of state policies and programs that guide the use, management and protection of the state's mineral and mining resources as well as a general understanding of the missions of the various organizations with an interest in Minnesota's Mining Industry.
+ Social Media promotion skills.
Additional Requirements
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver's license with a clear driving record; per DNR Fleet Policy, only those 18 years of age or older with a valid driver's license may operate equipment and vehicles on behalf of the Agency.
