Position Overview:
BWXT is currently seeking an NCS engineer Intern for the Summer of 2026.
Location:
On-site in Lynchburg, Virginia.
BWXT offers paid internships along with a housing stipend for those interns whose home of record is more than 50 miles from Lynchburg, VA. Internships will last approximately 10-12 weeks. At the end of the internship, each intern has the opportunity to present their completed work/ assigned projects to the leadership team.
Your Day to Day as a Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) Engineer Intern:
A nuclear criticality safety (NCS) engineer intern would be mentored (learning) to perform various activities to ensure plant operations comply with NRC license requirements in order to prevent a criticality accident. These include learning the basics of:
+ Performing NCS analyses to define the safety basis for process operation.
+ Advising production personnel on the impact of process changes and facility modifications.
+ Executing computer modules to evaluate normal operations and process upsets relative to NRC requirements.
+ Determining limits and controls to maintain operations critically safe.
+ Evaluating accident sequences and designating items relied on for safety to prevent a criticality accident.
+ Approving operating and maintenance procedures important to safety of operations.
+ Participating in audits, inspections, and investigations of unusual incidents.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
+ Must be currently enrolled in a B.S. or MS degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution. Nuclear engineering degree is preferred.
+ NCS related experience is a plus.
+ Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
