    The 8100 Family Practice Unit at Akron General is a high acuity, fast-paced, Neuro/Cardiac Telemetry unit with patients that require extensive ADL assistance. Caregivers in this unit care for patients with strokes, pneumonia, FTT, weakness, confusion, sepsis, PEG care, central lines, multiple antibiotic therapies, blood transfusions, IV push/cardiac drip medications and tracheostomy care. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA), you will play an integral role in ensuring patients continue receiving the best treatment possible. You will find a welcoming and hands-on environment where caregivers encourage education, mutual support and teamwork.     A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM - 11:30PM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.

    A caregiver who excels in this role will:

    + Prepare units, patient rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer, or emergencies.

    + Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.

    + Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, and height.

    + Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck's traction.

    + Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.

    + Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.

    + Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.

    + Document patient care in the electronic medical record.

    + Assist in keeping patient rooms in order, report equipment that is out of order and clean equipment (as assigned).

    + Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.

    Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

    + High School Diploma or GED

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within new hire periodo

    + Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills

    + Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

    Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

    + State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

    + One year of recent acute care experience
