Activity Specialist – Generation Q (LGBTQ+ Youth Services)
Schedule: Part-Time; Monday–Friday, 2:30 PM – 7:00 PM
Compensation: $20.50/hour

Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site nonprofit organization serving the diverse population of Queens through a broad network of programs for children and youth, adults and families, and older adults.

About Generation Q
Generation Q is a safe and affirming LGBTQ+ youth drop-in center for youth ages 13–18, with one dedicated afternoon for young adult programming.
Our programming includes:
+ Drop-in support, tutoring, creative expression, and gaming
+ Social Justice Leadership programs and counseling services
+ Training and outreach for schools, nonprofits, businesses, and parents on topics such as cultural competency, allyship, anti-bullying practices, and LGBTQ+ inclusion

Position Summary
We are seeking a passionate and engaging Activity Specialist to serve as a positive role model for youth while implementing activities that foster growth, learning, and leadership development. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, and committed to supporting LGBTQ+ youth in a nurturing and affirming environment.
Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), as well as gender-expansive and queer-identified individuals, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
+ Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful program environment in alignment with QCH and funder guidelines.
+ Design and implement engaging lesson plans, activities, and projects that meet program goals.
+ Collaborate with staff to develop themes, events, and special projects.
+ Support youth with academic enrichment (Math, Science, History, English).
+ Build strong, supportive relationships with participants while modeling healthy boundaries.
+ Assist with organizing and facilitating special events, activities, and family engagement initiatives.
+ Promote leadership development and community involvement among participants.
+ Secure program spaces at the end of each day and ensure participant safety.
+ Attend weekly staff meetings and participate in required professional development.
+ Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
+ Enrollment in a related college program (Education, Human Development, Sociology, Human Services) with at least two years of study completed.
+ 2+ years of experience leading youth activities (preferably with adolescents) in after-school or camp settings.
+ Strong group facilitation, conflict resolution, and youth engagement skills.
+ Ability to design hands-on, inquiry-based projects and activities.
+ Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills.
+ Tech-savvy; proficient with email, Microsoft Office, and basic computer skills.
+ Must pass NYS DOH and DOE fingerprinting, background checks, 3 reference checks, and medical clearance with an updated TB test.
