We are seeking a material physicist with a background in superconducting thin film materials and interfaces. The ideal candidate should have knowledge and experience that includes some of the following:
+ Working knowledge in experimental design, materials research and development, and condensed matter physics
+ Knowledge/Experience with electrical transport, magnetometry, x-ray scattering, or electron microscopy
+ Experience analyzing data from techniques mentioned above
+ Python, MATLAB, or equivalent experience/knowledge

+ Willing to contribute to materials R&D discussions and cross-coordinate with other teams to identify, build, complete and measure the resulting experiments.

This position requires work on site located at our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) in Linthicum, Maryland OR our Annapolis Junction, Maryland location.
Your responsibilities:
+ Be a collaborative member of a team solving interesting questions
+ Plan and carry out experiments to investigate superconducting materials.
+ Analyze and share findings with colleagues having diverse scientific expertise
+ Keep up to date with relevant superconducting materials in the literature
This position can be filled at the Associate Material Physicist level OR Material Physicist level. Qualifications for both are listed below:
Basic Qualifications for Associate Material Physicist:
+ Bachelor's Degree in materials science, experimental physics, or STEM related engineering field with a minimum of 6+ months of relevant technical experience.
+ Experience/knowledge of experimental materials science and/or condensed matter physics.
+ This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. Citizen.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance per customer’s requirements.
Basic Qualifications for Material Physicist:
+ Bachelor's Degree in materials science, experimental physics, electrical engineering or STEM related engineering field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant technical experience; Master’s Degree in materials science, physics, or STEM related engineering with a minimum of 6+ months of relevant technical experience.
+ Experience/knowledge of experimental materials science and/or condensed matter physics.
+ This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. Citizen.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance per customer’s requirements.
Preferred Qualifications for both Associate Material Physicist AND Material Physicist:
+ Experience with thin film characterization, such as x-ray diffraction, reflectometry, or spectroscopy; electron microscopy (SEM/TEM/FIB/EDS)
+ Expertise in superconducting materials, thin film surfaces and interfaces
+ Familiarity with condensed matter physics
+ Experience writing and contributing to version-controlled code in Python or MATLAB
+ Active U.S. Government security clearance.
Primary Level Salary Range: $70,600.00 - $106,000.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $85,400.00 - $128,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
