    Basic Function:

    This position will work under the direction of a supervisor, supervising foreman, or foreman as assigned. This position may be required to pass a CIP security background check.

    Essential Function:

    + Follow all safety programs, policies, procedures, and report safety incidents/near misses promptly.

    + Applies basic knowledge of electronics theory and a thorough working knowledge of the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of the Utility's Fiber to the Home Network

    + Fiber Network Technician duties will include construction and maintenance of overhead and underground fiber optic systems (both transport and distribution), fiber optic troubleshooting and restoration services, including ENT Optical Light measurement/troubleshooting, and gateway/ONT replacement, installation and powering that can be accomplished with a collar or by plugging in a Class 2 transformer.

    + Direct responsibility for completing assigned work needed to install and maintain the utility's fiber optic system, in a safe and efficient manner. Additional duties that Include the general condition of trucks, special equipment, and tools assigned.

    + When not working with fiber optics crews, this position will be required to work alone without supervision completing splices and other work that can be safely accomplished individually.

    + Will be required to work with other crews as assigned.

    + Must obtain fiber optics splicing certification within one (1) year.

    + Maintain assigned tools and equipment clean and orderly while securing repairs and maintenance as required.

    Education

    + High school diploma or GED from accredited institution.

    Experience

    + Fiber Network Technician card/journeyman status recognized by the Grant PUD and Union within six (6) months from the date of employment.

    + Two years of experience in construction and maintenance in fiber optics.

    + Must be an experienced operator possessing the ability to operate all line equipment including line trucks, bucket trucks, backhoes, and wire pulling equipment safely and proficiently.

    + Valid Washington State Driver's License, CDL may be required.

    + Valid First Aid card including CPR training, equivalent to the State of Washington requirements for industrial first aid

    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Must have the capability to efficiently construct all phases of overhead and underground fiber optics work.

    + Must have a sound knowledge of all utility Fiber Optics construction standards and practices.

    + Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and exercise sound judgement.

    + Ability to work with and assist others.

    + Ability to learn via OJT, online, as well as in a classroom.

    + All work is accomplished in accord with utility drawings, specifications, policies, procedures, and construction standards; safety rules and regulations of the utility and State of Washington are observed.

    + Must have capability to learn the use of personal and/or laptop computers.

    Physical Requirements

    + Must be mentally and physically fit for duty.

    + Vision requirements: Constantly uses far vision, near vision, color vision and/depth perception.

    + Types of exposures encountered on the Job: Constantly has exposure to loud machines, equipment noise.

    + Frequent exposures to extreme heat, or cold temperatures.

    + May occasionally pull, reach, climb and use repetitive hand motions, pushes, stoops, grasps, crawls sits and/or drives

    + Able to reach above the shoulder level.

    + Frequently utilizes senses (sight, hearing, touch, feel, and smell}.

    + Able to ascend/descend stairs, towers, and ladders including span ladders.

    + May be required to climb power and telecom poles.

    + Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

    + Ability to work in confined areas.
